Vince Young or Tommie Frazier?

I agree that Young is by far the most valuable for his team. He carried that team in almost every game.

Having said that Tommie is a better fit for the NU teams. Vince didn't have that type of option running ability....nobody did in years. If you want QBs that might have fit in our system it would be Rodney Peete, Tony Rice, Major Harris...guys from the late 80's who ran strong option teams with a lot of success. None of them would have been better than Tommie.

I still dont agree with the argument of more valuable. When you have 21 guys drafted into pro football from 06 (championship year) and 07, it doesnt sit that well with me. That's what UT had. That's a ton of talent. Plus Limas Sweed was a sophomore, and Jamaal Charles was a freshman. The argument can go either way, we all have our preferences. And that makes it fun. :thumbs

For me - Frazier = three straight National Title Game MVP Awards. Niice.

From Blair Kerkhoff of the Kansas City Star:

I’ve long thought of former Nebraska quarterback Tommie Frazier as the most valuable player in college football history.
Not the best, although he was sensational, but in terms of elevating a champion program’s status, few compare with Frazier, the option master, the heart and soul of the Cornhuskers’ national title teams of the mid-1990s.

Before Frazier: Big Eight champions, bowl-game punching bags. With Frazier: National-champion wallop and one of the greatest teams ever to wear pads. Many in red were responsible. Frazier is their symbol.

But Frazier now has some serious competition on my list. In light of last weekend’s disaster for Texas, college football’s all-time MVP award may belong to the fellow who watched the Longhorns unravel from a Darrell K. Royal/Memorial Stadium luxury box.

Credentials are growing for Vince Young, who could not inspire his former team to victory over Kansas State. He couldn’t come close, with the hungrier and more energized Wildcats rolling to a 41-21 smackdown.

Had Young been wearing the burnt orange we might have seen some of the magic that made him 30-2 as a starter, the ever-improving quarterback skills and other-worldly ad-lib instincts.

No college quarterback ever turned losses into greater gains — his last snap in the national championship victory over Southern California two years ago serves as the ultimate example.

With Young: Perfect season.

Before and after Young: Not as good as it should be for the program with the Big 12’s fattest budget, easiest access to some of the nation’s top high school talent, terrific facilities and just about every other advantage imaginable.

In other words, can Mack Brown coach? ....

That's a tough one....... I wish NU could have had Vince Young from '03 to '05 to compare the two a little better. But that's just me! <_<

Still, I'd go with Touchdown Tommie!!!! :thumbs
I think I'll take Hershel Walker over either.

Take it up with Blair Kerkhoff at the Star...... his question was VY or TF for MVP.

Mac Brown = Worst head coach in the big XII

Mack Brown is a clown and there really is no debating that, but I don't think he's the worst. Actually, I think we're gonna play against one of the worst Saturday. Pinkel has the ability to screw up just about anything he touches. He took arguably one of the best collegiate players ever and made him average his senior year. Now that takes some doing!

Both are wrong. Tell PUD to find a mirror and then have PUD hold it in front of Cally and COZ

Well if your going to look at it Crouch was more Valuable then both he just didn't have have a good running back or defense to give him any help. He was the team thats why he deserved the Heisman.

I'd take Frazier over all of them he took Nebraska offense to a new level when he was in there.

Texas wouldnt have been in that game if Bush didn't decide to pitch 30 yards downfield on a very stupid play in the NC game.

Frazier. VY got beat up vs. OU one year - bad. Tommie would'nt let that happen. Played solid against top opponents all the time.

Durable, mentally tough as hell, and a master of psyching out the other team.

Watch the '95 O-bowl vs. Miami. Walking slow to the sideline in the 1st TV timeout, letting the crowd tire themselves out. Of course, getting in Sapp's head in that game was awesome.

Then, there's the fake gimp he'd do after a hard hit out of bounds, then rip off a 48 yard gain a few plays later.

AND - he willed the team down the field, plus raised the level of play around him.

I hate to bring it up but Frazier did lose to Iowa St one year. If I remember they bought the wrong shoes for a wet and muddy field and they had no tight ends because of injuries.

I pick tommie.....because he was more intelligent about the game

and he was freaking fast

Maybe Vince was bigger....but Tommie was kind of big. And he was way faster than Vince Young

The only thing those two had in common is that they both got screwed in the Hypesmen voting by a over rated running back.

The question is who was more vaulable to their Team.

Clearly it is Vince Young. Texas does not win a NC with out him. They did not have the talent 2 deep at the QB position.

Nebraska had a 2nd string QB that would have been the starter at most schools in the country. They got it done with TF out of the lineup against a some tough Teams including a blow out of #2 Ranked Colorado.
