Virginia Tech Memorial Thread

I watched MSNBC, CNN and FOX News all day with tears streaming down my cheeks. Juat sat there...watching... So very sad for the students, athletes, parents, faculity, everyone...I just kept seeing Columbine in my mind. All those kids running away from the school. That anniversary is Friday, the 20th. Those of us in Colorado remember it well plus the shootings just last fall in Platte Canyon.

What the hell is wrong with people????? :madash :madash

This is not a good week for this country as far as events go. OKC bombing, Columbine and now this...just makes me sad.

Damn tough week

Paul is one of my close friends. I have been in contact with him throughout the past few days and he said none of his immediate friends were among the wounded or injured, but his father (a former professor at VT and currently here) did know one of the staff murdered. I will be attending the vigil tonight at the UNL campus (8:30 in front of the union). Anyone else in the area should stop by.

right on......i'm in..............please anyone join in, like Texas game this year.

Someone like myself who is close to their University(UNL, donating, etc.) doesn't even want to think if this happened at UNL. I just want to do some much for VT, even if it's just putting a simple sig on

This stuff is crazy. I didn't even know about it until about 2pm that evening and immediately was scared to death. Most who do decide to go to college in my area ultimately decide to go to Tech.

If you live around here, you NEVER think about these things happening. Everyone knows everyone and people are as genuinely polite as you can really find.

I can remember when the ASL shooting happened just a few miles from my house. I was in school that day and the entire county went into lockdown. From banks, to schools, to hospitals, the place went into a panic with no idea really what was going on. Stuff like this just doesn't happen around here, really.

I am not sure if there is a post on this or not but I just want to send out my thoughts and prayers to all the families and victims in the V-Tech disater. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Friday, April 20 - Hokie Hope: Orange and Maroon Effect

Virginia Tech family members across the country have united to declare Friday, April 20, an "Orange and Maroon Effect" day to honor those killed in the tragic events on campus Monday and to show support for VT students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni and friends. Everyone across the country is invited to be part of the Virginia Tech family this Friday and wear orange and maroon to support the families of those who were lost, the school and the community.

I'll try

My heart and prayers goes out to all suffering from this terrible tragedy! I haven't thought about much else for days. As a Mom, I am so sad to think about the loss of all those children. We almost lost our son 5 years ago in a bad accident, but he's alive and well, and I will forever be thankful. I will give both my boys an extra hug when I see them. To think that one crazy guy ruined the lives of so many innocent people is just beyond words. I will wear Orange & Maroon to work tomorrow to honor them all! God Bless them all!

Today is the anniversary of the OKC bombing. It has been quite some time since this terrorist attack happened here but I have to tell you that it still gets me every April 19th. Its hard to put out of your mind 168 people who couldnt lead their lives because someone selfishly stole their life from them.

It will be very very hard for the folks at Virginia Tech to get this from replaying in their minds. I pray that they can find peace and love in their hearts.

The biggest thing I hope for is that this doesn't start a nation-wide panic and racial profiling of any/all asian or asian-appearing citizens or visitors. The last thing we need is hate crimes against an entire (another) ethnic group because one guy's fuses weren't connected...and he just happened to be from South Korea. Unfortunately it is sure to happen....some 'neck will see a Chinese, Japanese, Korean sitting on a park bench minding his own business and decide he needs to rough him up. Even though there are more murders, rapes and other inhumane crimes being committed each and every day by typical-looking caucasians and nobody panics when they see one sitting on that park bench.

It may sound goody-two-shoes...but here's to hoping that instead of hitting another ethnic group with a fist...we can hit them with a smile and a handshake.
