Walkons get scholarships

Oh man, you just keep going back to the shed. LBs? 5 of them, two of which were Jucos who started in the spring game, 4 of which play on the outside, and the inside one was one of the tops in the nation. You lost on this one buddy, just give it up. You can attack Callahan on alot of things, but depth and recruiting arent either of them. Where were our outside linebackers last year? Oh that's right. Frank didnt recruit any good ones since Williams. My bad, dumb question.

my bad, I counted Marcus Gordon for some reason, stupid marcus gordan, always messing me up. five is correct. That seems like a pretty big number to me. It seems like its almost a third of typical Solich class.

Back to the shed, yeah, thats where I took you :thumbs

I dont remember mentioning anything about the LBs in this thread, but if you must know, Frank got quite a few top LBs in the past (D Williams). Unfortunately, some either didnt work out (J Richenberger, etc) or the new staff didnt have the ability to figure out a way to play them (NFL bound Ira Cooper).

As for Josh "Bullocks" youre the only one who said that he wanted to play for cally. Everyone else is calling him a crybaby and a quitter because he didnt want to play for cally and coz. Which way is it?

As far as dumb questions, judging by the way you butcher the English language, thats the norm from you. :o

insults former, insults. Sad that you have to resort to that. Do you want the number of DB's too, or any other position for that matter, because with THIRTY recruits the odds are in my favor. Good job with the Ira Cooper bit, I almost didnt catch his name on day one or two of the draft. Oh yeah, that's right. He wasn't drafted. Is that what your arguments have to resort to? Undrafted free agents? Arguing that Callahan can't recruit at this point, which according to his one class, he can, or that depth is somehow a first year coach's problem is like pissing into the wind, and man you are starting to stink.

1. He wasn't drafted.
2. Arguing that Callahan can't recruit at this point, which according to his one class,

3. or that depth is somehow a first year coach's problem
1. I never said he was, but he is getting a shot at the NFL. Sorry that you're having trouble comprehending that.

2. Never said he couldnt recruit. Its just funny that before JD left he had 7 scholly qbs for one position, yet he had about 6 scholly db's for 4 positions. :WTH Doesnt quite add up (except maybe to you).

3. This is his second year. 2 spring practices, 2 recruiting classes. Starting his second fall camp in a few months.

You make almost zero sense, and frankly, you're not worth my time anymore :rickjames

sorry to monopolize the board. Does anyone else have any comments or slaps on the back for these two fine young men, who sacrificed alot (of money) to come and play for the greatest school in the world?

1. And what does that have to do with the price of condoms??
My point was that just because you carry a 500 (I'm obviously exaggerating) player roster and had success doesn't mean it is necessary. I thought that was obvious.
. Last I checked, depth of both OLs and DBs is dangerously thin at best. bill was supposed to be here to recruit, but he failed to bring in enough players at those positions to make up for the lack of depth. As far as having just 1 GOOD YEAR of recruiting, fine. I agree, I just want the rest of ya'll to quit talking about National Championships after 1 GOOD RECRUITING YEAR. Its ignorant.
Great, bill got a number one rated recruiting class (by his buddy, Tom Lemming). Remember, NU has won 5 NC's without the help of a number 1 rated recruiting class
I never said anything about national championships. I really haven't read anyone post anything on this board claiming that we are going to absolutely win an NC in the next year or two. If they did, it had to be in jest. This has gotta be in your head man... ;) You talk like all you read here is are going to win a NC in a year.

You are right, it will take more than a year to fill out. Given we agree on that, how can you then go and say that he has failed to fill positions at this point when it isn't possible?

About the recruiting class, OK, great. Tom Lemming rated it high. I guess forgive anyone from having any kind of friends in related fields? What does that have to do with these two walk-on's getting schollies?

My point with the walkons is that it has worked at NU ever since I can remember, and I think that the change is counterproductive.

You may not have said anything about a NC, but there has been alot of talk about returning to dominance in the next couple of years. My take on it is to wait, its gonna be a while, if ever.

My disappointment with this class (as good as it looks), actually the last two, is that the team is very heavy in certain positions (qb, wr, lb, rb), and very thin at others (ol,db). Even though there may be alot of good athletes coming in, I dont think that they allocated the schollys well in regards to need at certain positions. With 2 classes under his belt, I would have hoped that these needs would have been addressed better.

I guess that the Lemming jab was a little off topic, and was meant more for everyone else, as opposed to a direct response to you. My bad ;)

Wow, this thread kind of took on a mind of its own. Former fan, I was beginning to think you were heavily medicated in the last few days, but I see now your prescription has run out or you have just snapped out of your funk  I just don't understand why you regard Callahan as a short sighted idiot. It's not like he cut 60 guys from the walk-on list. He cut 20 at the most, 20 out of 75 guys. 20 guys who will never see the field, EVER. You act like he took 20 random walk-ons and showed them the door. Don't you think he keeps the best ones? The ones that are going to help this team? I think the higher roster sizes and the fact that Solich obviously didn't have a firm grasp on the program might be a correlation. As far as lost impact goes, I don't think it will amount to a pinch of sh#t. That's my opinion, I know I'm wrong, maybe I'll grow a set and think for myself, and do what you tell me to. But then again, YOU'LL NEVER TURN ME TO THE DARKSIDE!

Here is a theory--

The Bobfather and TO took many walkons...I think the Bobfather started this? I am unsure, maybe someone can help me here.

I think the walkon program started out small, and ballooned to what it was in Frank's last years. I think it got so big there was no way any one of them could cut it down without a major PR problem (TO perpetuated large #'s of walkons, but he could handle it).

Callahan didn't want to deal with that many players. It was certainly his prerogative, as a new head coach.

I love the walkon program, and by Cally giving walkon schollys, it shows his continued commitment to it. It just isn't out of hand.

Welcome to the 21st century, my friends.

DJR, you just don't get it. The absolutely ginormous walk on program has to be in place or the sky will fall!!!!
