Warren Buffett

I've always wondered to myself if Warren Buffett, one of the richest men on earth and Nebraska Alumni would ever drop an insanely high amount of money on the University and the athletic department. I am sure he has given generously in the past but I know if I were that loaded and called myself a Husker fan what I would do.

One Half of a billion dollars to the University

One Half of a billion dollars to the athletic department specifically.

Seems unlikey such a thing will ever happen, but a nice thought. :koolaid2: :koolaid2: :koolaid2: :koolaid2:

I'm guessing he has a large sum set up in his will. Maybe not half a billion, but probably a good chunk of change.

I think he prefers to spend his money donating to charities ;)

One of them being the Buffett Foundation to help Nebraska kids attend Nebraska colleges....which is where his money will go when he passes.

btw, my family knows Warren Buffet and fam.

just showing that off

:leghump:

It is highly unlikely he would drop such a sum after agreeing to donate so much to the B&M Gates foundation. Moreover, he would never drop money specifically on the athletics department. As for donating to one of the science departments involved in AIDS/ Genetics / public health research, it would be a different story. He has stated numerous times over the last few years that he is much more concerned with global health and development issues in the rest of the world than he is with purely domestic concerns. I also believe, in his mind, he would feel immoral to contribute so much to athletics when there are more pressing concerns. He might be a husker fan but it isn't his top concern.

Warren Buffet is not even leaving his kids a substantial amount of money, so I doubt he leaves the athletic department much of a gift. I agree with some of the other posts that he will donate it all away or give some to the science/health department. He is the type of guy that likes to see people create their own wealth instead of having it given to them and I personally respect that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he already give them theirs?

he donates all the time to NU its just 4 academics not athletics

His best quote about husker football was on Callhan right after he was fired.

"He was recruiting a 6'4 120 lb full back to play. It's sort of an odd dimension for a football player, but it's the only one that could fit through the holes our line was opening up." ;)

At least Buffet would be more willing to throw a little towards athletics with Tom as AD and Bo as coach rather than BillyC.

For some reason I am thinking he is a Missouri fan. Seems like I read that somewhere. But I also don't know crap.

He has a few pictures with chase daniel from a few years ago. He liked Chase, but he is NOT a MU fan. Buffet was even a guest coach on the sidelines of the OU game, not to mention he normally makes it to lincoln for 1-2 games a year, schedule permitting. He does watch every game regardless of whether he can attend. You read wrong.

Yeah he likes chase cause he's a business major, and since an NFL career looks very doubtful at this point that's probably what he'll end up doing.

he did... Suzie used hers to buy a sweet house in Fair Acres in Omaha, and of course she is on the board now... she is very active in local charities and organizations.

They give ALOT to a certain high school in Omaha, but I wont say which one because I dont think she wants any credit for doing so.

yeah I think I should have used better wording in my first statement. I believe he has already given them enough to "live comfortably," but he isn't giving them all of his wealth. He still wants them to have jobs and to have to work hard for what they have. Buffet certainly is not the Boone Pickens of Nebraska.
