Charlton Warren is a graduate of the Air Force Academy. He spent 10 years on active duty as a systems acquisitions program manager.
“I placed bombs,” Warren said.
So yeah, he’s experienced in dealing with complicated situations.
That made the uncertainty surrounding Warren’s coaching future with the Nebraska football team somewhat easier to manage, he said.
“You take the stress out of it,” Warren said, “and you focus and you control what you can control.”
What Warren could control in the wake of a head coaching change and staff turnover included recruiting and focusing on Nebraska’s current players, especially the seniors playing their final game in the Holiday Bowl.
“And when you have a chance to meet with somebody in authority, which obviously was Coach (Mike) Riley,” Warren said, “you be genuine and you tell them who you are and what you believe in, and you hope it’s a match. And if it’s not, then you buck up and you do something else for your family and your lifestyle.
“But in this case, it was a match.”
