Was BO to Florida in the works?

Those same major media outlets have more character flaws than Bo does. Just because somebody says something on TV doesn't mean they're not completely full of s***.

As far as people questioning Bo's character, I don't really know what more you could want from a coach. Tom Osborne is now looked at as a saint by Nebraska fans, but guess what - Tom Osborne yelled at refs. Tom Osborne yelled at players. Tom Osborne played Lawrence Phillips, and was thrown under the bus by the entire national media for doing so. Are you saying you don't like Tom Osborne? Are you saying that he would have been a bad hire back in his coaching days because of "character" flaws?

Bo yelled at the refs (when they deserved it), and yelled at his starting QB (we don't know why, but if you believe any of the rumors, the QB probably deserved it), and that's about it. On the other hand, he's had 3 straight 9-win seasons while having very few off-the-field issues with his players.
NOTHING Bo did this season is comparable to the agonizing decision Tom went through before he played LP. NOTHING. That's a laughable comparison. In fact, Bo to Osborne AT ALL is a laughable comparison.

If you're giving the entirety of Bo Pelini a pass because he's had three nine-win seasons, you're way too far gone in the kool-aid for me.

I apologize for calling your wife a bloated warthog, and I bid you good day.

I'm not saying Bo had to make a decision equal to Osborne playing Phillips. I'm just saying that Osborne had his character questioned to a much greater extent than Bo did this year, but it didn't take away from the fact that he was a great coach.

I also didn't give the "entirety of Bo Pelini a pass because he's had three nine-win seasons." If you look closer you'll see in the very same sentence a reference to the fact that Pelini has had very few off the field issues with his players in the past few seasons.

I think that to just look at the Texas A&M game and then question Bo's character based on that one night alone does a disservice to the entire body of work that he has put together.

I think you and I agree the majority of the time, and I think that most of this discussion is born from boredom and passion for the team. I know you have the best interest of the team and the coaches at heart (as do I), and while we could find things to discuss and debate in every post, most of what we're on about here amounts to very little.

You are definitely right about the boredom...

Wow Knapp, never seen you like this. I'm getting worried. I don't know if I should worry for your mental health or our football program, maybe both.

Like what? A cranky, argumentative, obstinate bastard?

I'm always like this. It's my most endearing quality. ;)

First of all, "other boards" are not representative of entire fan bases. Second, other fan bases will rip on Bo even when he has a great season, and even if he acts like an angel on the sideline. That's because they're "other fan bases." If Bo gets hired to coach their team, he stops being the coach they love to hate, and becomes the passionate teacher that gets the most out of his players on and off the field.
Nobody ever said other boards are representative of "entire fan bases." I said fans other than Nebraska fans were unimpressed by Bo this season. This is not up for debate; it's easy to find. Google is your friend. ;)

Facts are your friend also. Basic statistics show, the people most likely to make a statement are those strongly against something. Then those strongly for something will come out and say something to oppose them if they know its there. So, because the people you see are strongly against it, they are the most likely to come out and say it. Simply based of statistics, there are plenty more people who fit into the category that they don't care about his attitude then fit into your category of being fed up with it.

On the original point, I think more people would be willing to take the success that he has had in the college game since 2003 along with the "character flaws" that he has. Hell, who are any of us to judge his character with the small sample that we see on the football field? We see him for maybe 42 hours a year. Is that really a good enough sample to judge his entire character?

Last week Colin gave the acronym, S.T.A.B., as to who would get the Florida Head Coaching job. Here’s what it meant.

Wednesday night Colin got a call from an excellent source that allowed him to break the Lane Kiffin to USC story and was told Nebraska Head Coach Bo Pelini was in discussions with Florida officials to be their next head coach. S.T.A.B. meant “Southern Ties, Advantage Bo”

The next day Pelini’s name was all over the sports pages in regards to the Miami job. That’s when things got blown up and discussions fell apart. Colin will stand by his word that Pelini was close to getting the Florida job.

I wouldn't be surprised, maybe BO was trying to work something out when it became front page news and felt pressured and took his name out.
First of all, Cowherd, is a dipsh*t, of unmeasurable magnitude.

I'm glad to see sports reporting is now down to the level of passing notes in 6th grade english.

"S.T.A.B." are you freaking serious?

Journalistic integrity is being killed by twitter, and other media networking devices. Anyone of us could go on twitter, make up some outlandish sh*t about a player and a coach, and if the right person sees it, it's on the crawl of ESPNU.

What about Dr Tom hiding Tyrone Williams' gun in his office? Ole Tom isn't exactly a saint either. He has embarrased Nebraska just the same! I recall the media having a field day about this for years. I was attending UNL at this time and the media circus was in full frenzy. How many of these same instances would Bo get rid of those players?

I'm assuming if Bo were to leave the Huskers it would be to Ohio Stateafter Tressel's retirement (which may be happening in the next 3-4 years.)

By then will he really want to step Down to Ohio State from a Nebraska team that has 2 consecutive Big 10 +2 championships. Of course home is home and for him that is Ohio.

man....whew.

you read that article in the present, and now knowing what we know about most of these guys and where they ended up...

I was a teen during that great run, enjoying the winning and life in general. Im trying to imagine if it would have occurred in a time like today, with message boards and what my opinions and posts would have been. Then again, with the level of scrutiny that there is today, maybe Tom doesnt act the way he did then. Its hard saying.

The realist in me says that Dr Tom was just as good if not better being a head coach than all the greats for all the, erm, right reasons.
