A runner was awarded a prize for winning a marathon, but the judges disqualified him when they saw a picture of his wristwatch. Why?

It will please some of you to know that no one died or injured in the posting of this riddle.

The wristwatch was also a pedometer which displayed too few steps for the man to have run the entire way.

The runnner actually exceeded the speed of light and finished the race prior to the start. His watch showed time before the race :) I wuv star trek.

The "original" runner started the race, then dropped out and his twin took over and "won". The only difference between them in appearance was the watch - each was wearing a different watch/one had a watch and the other didn't/one wore the watch on the left wrist and one wore it on the right???
