Watson applied

I agree with the majority that it would be a no-brainer for Wats to apply for this job. Further, Bo has indicated that he'll help any of his coaches progress up the coaching ladder if he can (don't have a link, but he said this around the time Ekeler was interviewing last year). It's part of the business.

Bo has a huge rolodex (or a Blackberry, if you're younger than 40) full of coach's phone numbers across the country. He'll have a replacement for any guy who leaves within a couple of weeks, if not sooner.
Any idea who some of these guys are? Seriously, who would be Bo's 1st choice to replace Wats?
Sadly, I do not have access to Bo's Blackberry. :cry

The way the coaching carousel is in CFB, we should never be too shocked when coaches decide to move on, more money and what is right for their family and you can't fault anyone for that. Just like most of us, you put in the time, work your butt off and hope someday someone throws you an opportunity to climb that ladder.

you can't tell me he has not gone through about 50 of those things! Bo+Mad= :throw

Can ever blame a guy for wanting to be a head coach some where ,there are alot of great offensive guys out there that would love to come to Nebraska.
Thats always puzzled me, if Shawn Watson was to leave NU. Who would be likely to take over the OC position at NU?

Who knows? There are dozens of candidates, from OCs and various assistants at other schools to guys from the NFL (assistants, most likely, but likely not OCs), to someone internally getting a promotion and then hiring for their former position. Hard to say.

The perfect situation would be that Wats leaves, Turner realizes he can never coach against Nebraska, and Gill becomes our OC. :LOLtartar

But anyways, I'm not surprised by this. Watson is getting old. If he wants to get a head coaching job and try to have an impact somewhere he has to start looking now.

Regardless of when he leaves, I will be rather indifferent to it. We've seen the good and bad of Shawn Watson. He can give us a top 25 offense or a lower tier offense. Both seem to possible with him.

But even when the offense is clicking, it is still nearly impossible for any underclassmen to have true impacts on the field. Most guys in Shawn Watson's offense don't look really good until they hit their junior and senior seasons. I would like to see us bring in an OC that can use underclassmen just as well as upperclassmen in the system.

I'm gonna play Nostradamus with this and say if Nebraska has a BCS year next season and Colorado has another losing season, then the Buffs will contact Wats about the HC job.
