Watson: Call Me Woody Hayes

I can't believe that Ohio State is 80th in total offense and going to the Rose Bowl.

For all of you people comparing Cody Green to Terelle Pryor before the season, being 80th in total offense is not an improvement.

Well, How bad is Nebraska ranked in offensive numbers, and we're one win from a Fiesta Bowl, hell maybe 3-4 plays from being in the damn National title picture. :bang Now that just sounds gross.

I'm gonna go ahead and oneup myself now before anyone else can. We're also 3-4 plays away from not bein bowl eleigible too. :steam

It is pretty damn disgusting.

i disagree, i feel that we have won handily and lost close, maybe my memory is wrong.
I also really feel the same way, that this team has done what is has had to to win. But, there also downers out there that feel we've been bailed out at time this year, and tho i dont feel that way, i do see some logic in their point. In about every win this year in conference, the game couldve went the other way upon a difference in outcome on 1 if not just 2 plays. Just a thot, but that's football I know. We did enuff to win, our opponents didnt. Virginia Tech, Tech, and Iowa St. all did just enuff and we didnt.

What counts is that we beat every team this year in the North we had to beat. We beat Mizzou, Kansas, and Colorado on the road and a must win against Kansas State in Lincoln. Each of those teams in the past have been a legitimate contender for the top spot in the Big 12 North the last eight years.

In my eyes, this Nebraska team is much like the Baltimore Ravens and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this decade. Killer defenses with vanilla offenses. Nothing flashy or dominant, just adequate enough to get the job done.

Let me put this in perspective. Last year this team was just as "crappy," only the offense and defense were flip-flopped. However, nobody ever seems to complain when you win shootouts like 40-31 (last year vs Colorado), or 45-35 (Kansas), or 56-28 (against a pre-Snyder KSU). Scoring those points makes the fans feel good and overlook or downplay just how crappy their defense is. Unfortunately, when you have a crappy defense, when you lose you tend to get games that look like this: 62-28 (Oklahoma), and 17-52 (Missouri).

Sure, our offense is crappy, but our defense is permanently fixed. We are going to have great defenses as long as Pelini is here. Does anybody doubt that? I firmly believe that they'll get even better in the future as he brings in defensive personnel that fit his style and work ethic. In my judgment, that makes this team 1/2 fixed. With a defense like we have, all we really need is a modest offense to be able to hang with the top handful of teams. We can compete with all the rest already--even with a broken offense. If we start getting great offenses again--LOOK OUT.

Keep it in perspective. This glass is 1/2 full and the water level is RISING. Life is good at Nebraska again. Enjoy it.

Honestly, I could see Bo in the same situation that Mangy is in at KU...he is very high strung and very emotional. I could see it building up and him exploding and getting a little rough with a player. He needs to get a little prozac.

That's just it though, our offense isn't adequate enough to get the job done against real good teams. Everyone raves about how good the offense is, but the Texas D is as good if not better than ours. And our D has bailed us out plenty this year against teams like Missou, Kansas, Baylor, etc. However, Texas will make us pay for any mistakes. I think this will be a tough game for Nebraska just to keep it close.

Mangino isn't in trouble because he yelled at or even shoved some players. He's in trouble first and foremost for losing 6, soon to be 7, games in a row under the watch of an Athletic Director that, apparently, doesn't like him, and is looking for an excuse to terminate him with cause. Secondly, he's in trouble for *what* he said, not how. Telling players (allegedly) that they can go home to be alcoholics like their father, or can go get shot like their brother, or can go back to the ghetto is far over the top, if true. I don't see Pelini as the kind of guy to hit below the belt like that. Fiery? Absolutely. Will he get in your face and tear you a new one when you're not performing? Yep. Berate you with personally hurtful things in front of the team or get violent with a player or assistant? I just can't see that.

Also, for the record, OSU is 69th, not 80th. Not that that makes a difference to the point of that comment. Pretty sad that a middling offense can coast into a BCS game like that.

I highly doubt Bo would ever tell a young gentleman to go back to the ghetto to get shot like his bros just did. It takes a very special group of human beings to be this cruel.

Well - good thing we played Clemson in LAST year's Gator Bowl game.
