Four-Star Recruit
What I want to know is why was Pelini let go? and cos his replacment.

Last year On D Nebraska was dominating, and Wis was only avg? This good ol boy hireing is compleatly dumping the Nebraska D....

My theory is that Callahan dumped Pelini because he was going for the head coach while it was open and didnt want anyone in the coaching staff taking his job beacause he cannot coach or wants Nebraska to drop off the face of the map in hopes that his WCO (we cant operate) will win a title, he knows that he can blame this years preformance on the fact that he doesnt have his reqruits in..... Whin in trueth it really doesnt matter the recruits he gets the WCO doesnt work the Raiders proved that....

As the season comes to a close the only bowl we will be able to play in is the toilet bowl. :flush

Everyone is saying that Football has changed from when T.O was Coach, im sorry to say that it hasnt, a team can be one dim. and still win, look at what Texas tech did, they didnt come out running the ball they were true to what the program is good at passing the ball, Nebraska has been a running program for years dominating on time of poss. with this wco the only thing we dominate is points allowed.

I know that Pelini will never come back and Solich is gone for good, but at least look at what nebraska did with a power running game compaired to wco and tell me what else am I to think...

Everyone is saying give COach C a few years to get his players in and then it will all change, well that is all nice and dandy but is Nebraska turning into one of those teams that is only good every 4th year then rebuild....wait then go to a bowl.

While I don't think it's quite as bad as that, I still agree with a lot of what you said. There is a different feel to what's going on right now, and it isn't good. I point to Notre Dame again. Willingham was hired for essentially the same reasons as Callahan: to get better recruits and transform the offense. Well, This is the third year, and they have three losses and are staring at at least two more. I'll be surprised if Callahan can turn this around even next year.

Like I said in another post doesn't USC run a version of the WCO? Saying the Raiders prove it doesn't work is a joke. They lead the NFL in total offense. I guess it didn't work for the 49ers, Packers, Broncos, Eagles. You guys act like we totally threw the running game away. We have ran the ball almost 100 mores times then we have passed.

You're right, and when have we actually moved the ball this year...when we're running it. I don't have anything against the WCO as a philosophy, I have just made it clear and I'll say it again that the offense has been installed too quickly and with a lot of arrogance. That is what has caused our implosion this year.

Noter Dame is an excellent example of that Nebraska can look foward to, Going back to college football has changed, last I checked if you have the ball more than the other team its hard for them to score.

While you have to pass some time, only one good thing comes from passing the ball compaired to three things that are bad.. (drop, int, incompleate) I know that some will say that Nebraska is running the ball more, but they are not running with any authority, the fb isnt used they havent used any misdirection or delay plays its all up front.

On D im not sure that cos knows what team he is playing it is as if he has one set def and will use that no matter the out come or team he plays.

Makes me wonder if his theory is if it works lets do something else.

The WCO may work in the Pros, but in college it is very hard to make it work... The problem is that in the pros you have the best college players, In college no matter how good your recruiting your not going to recruit a team where everyone is at pro level....

Dont forget about the Atlanta Falcons who have one of the best QBs in the NFL just put the WCO in and Vick is having one of the worst seasons in his carrier.

I'll give you guys Cosgrove he looks lost at times. But I think this offense can work. It still comes down to the players making plays and when your QB throws the ball to the wrong team nothing is going to work. It's w aork in progress and it seems like they have tried to simplify things for Joe the last couple of games. I'll tell you one thing I like the quick slant to the receiver though. Just as good as a run play if ran right.

This year vs Last year over 7 games

2004 Points scored 201 / points allowed 205

2003 Points scored 206 / points allowed 91

THe thing that really sticks out to me is last year we were scoring more on avg per game, this year if not for the W. Illinios and baylor our scoring is way down.. And on D well I think 114 point diff is self explan.

That is a great play. But wouldn't it be even better if run out of an I formation, 2 wide receiver set? Then all the linebackers would be forced into the box. Imigine running that play after 5 or 6 straight running plays. It would catch the defense totally off guard. Like I say, I'm not opposed to implementing some new stuff, I just think we went too far too fast.

That quick slant sucks, it hasn't got us anything good. Sure we complete it once in awhile but our wr's get smoked on it. Half the time it gets picked. Why not run it when you can get 5 yards a pop.

You're a retard. You really need a hug dude. Why are you so negative? I think Pilkington had a pretty good game against KU running that play. If he held onto the ball against Pitt it was open. The only play a wr got smoked on tis year was Mulkey and he was dragging the middle not a slant. Any way of to Lincoln got to get up early and get to seat. Go Big Red!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I don't agree much with Benard, let me remind you that the board rules do not permit personal attacks. Disagree with him all you want, debate the points all you want. Do not engage in name calling or other personal attacks.

Bear in mind that a discussion board isn't much fun is everyone shares the same opinion - in fact, it becomes downright boring.

Oh Christ. Not again.

I don't have the energy. If you would come around more than once in a blue moon, this one dimensional team theory has been discussed AT LENGTH.

As far as the coaching crap, blah. We need a forum just for those discussions so that no one else has to read that drivel.

Wasn't personally attacking the dude. Good clean razzing. I would say this seem stuff to my friends. My bad if I seemed out of line. Go Big Red.

I understand. But on a message board, that kind of thing can be misconstrued, and lead to flame wars. Thanks.
