2. Courtney Osbourne's "questionable" blitz. Nebraska was pretty much angry in all directions during its Nov. 20 loss at Texas A&M: Officials, reporters, grabby Aggie linemen, even Nebraska's own quarterback came in for a dose of 'Husker rage. But of all the penalties that provoked their ire and there were a lot of them none was as infuriating as the roughing the passer call against safety Courtney Osbourne for a good, clean hit on A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill on a 3rd-and-11 blitz with six minutes to play in a tie game:

The 15-yard penalty bailed the Aggies out of a certain punting situation, instead giving them new life in range of a go-ahead field goal attempt – which came a little under three minutes later, sealing a 9-6 A&M win and the first of three Nebraska losses in its last four games.

Sidenote: I'm generally not a fan of the Yahoo "sports blogs" but out of all of them, this one is pretty consistant.

One of the most blatantly ridiculous calls I've ever seen in my life. It haunts me to this day.

 
One of the worst brain farts during the 10' season was the Osborne hit on Gabbert to cause a fumble that the head Referee ruled Gabberts forward progress had stopped that took away a defensive touchdown.

I agree on this call. Even my Aggie friend said that they got extremely lucky with that call and that it was a blown call.

Clicking on this thread I thought it was going to be a preseason rank and I thought to myself someone must know something I don't or someone was very drunk when making there rankings. Glad to see that this was not the case.

We were 12th in the nation in penalties per game (although only Troy had more total penalties, 110, than we did, 109).

We were second in Yards Penalized (993; Baylor was #1 with 1,007).

We tied with New Mexico for second most fumbles lost (16); both GA Tech and WVA lost 20.

How many times did we actually fumble? 40 or so?

 
I got those numbers from the NCAA stat site which only counts fumbles lost. I'm guessing it was upwards of 40. :mellow:

 
I wouldn't say this ranking makes me "happy" because I'd much rather it didn't happen at all. Even though the ranking is justified, I really don't like seeing Nebraska in these kind of lists b/c they cause me to ask "What if...?" And by golly, there were a lotta those this year, non more regrettable than that lousy call.
