The Empire State Building utilizes a computer driven LED light system that allows them to change the colors instantaneously.

It also does this:

But you could just easily put a colored film over the light fixtures. Similar to how they turn the State Capitol colors sometimes.

That would be cool in a night game scenario if they did it right before the tunnel walk although I'm not sure how that would work with the big stadium lights as I have no idea how long they take to power up.  One would think the basketball teams might be able to adopt this.  I know the Chicago Bulls did some cool stuff when doing team intros but I can't remember if they added a red hue at all.
