We will have a band after all

On that note, Cotton sucks, fire Watson, we need Austin Hill because he's Aaron Green's cousin, WHY AREN'T THE COACHES GIVING THEIR SIDE OF THE STORY ON THESE DECOMMITS? Start Cody Green.

OUTSTANDING!

.

LOL, as an alum of the Lincoln Southeast (LSE) Marching Knights, I'm stoked for their opportunity :) . I can tell you that MOST LIKELY they were in town for the Holiday Bowl parade anyway, it's common practice for multiple (Read: 50+) high school bands to attend bowl game parades, and since travel plans for high school kids, especially with regard to fundraising and such, are usually made more then a year in advance, the fact that the Lincoln Southeast band is marching in the Holiday Bowl Parade, and the Huskers are playing in the game, is merely convenient circumstance in this case, and I'm glad to see that there's some good ol' Nebraska kids there to pick up the slack :) .

.

I'm disappointed that the University didn't do more to get the UNL Band there, but I'm excited for the opportunity it presented.

.

Myself, I missed out on the Holiday bowl parade in 02', but did the Fiesta Bowl parade in 04'.

.

Yeah, I was a band loser, so sue me... :D

Umm, are they going to learn anything else besides hail varsity? It might get a little old late in the game when our band can only play one tune.

The Southeast band was in fact already scheduled to be in the Holiday Bowl parade long before the Huskers were picked to play there.

I was surprised they didn't already know Hail Varsity. But then I guess not every Nebraska High school uses that for their fight song. My alma mater used it, I can still play it 30 plus years later. (band nerd here too..Trumpets ROCK!!)

According to the local news, they learned 3 new songs: Hail Varsity, There is no Place like Nebraska & March of the Cornhuskers.

I'm sure they have some of their own selections they play at their home games. Anyway Hail Varsity and Dear Old Nebraska U are probably in their repitouire' (sp?) already. Our pep band did.

same here, if you're from Nebraska your high school band probablly plays em. :) I love this state!

I wouldn't worry about the selection...

1) It's a high-profile game in a pro stadium, the band will be overshadowed by the sound system for all the 'filler' music, they'll only have to pep up when the Huskers score and a few other times...times when 'Hail Varsity' will do just fine, lol.

2) Nebraska high school bands usually have a few of the UNL songs in their repertoire anyway...especially those from Lincoln

3) Since they're a 'stand band' they can play whatever they want as long as they get the sheets for it, no shame in reading music in the stands, I'm sure the coverage team will do a blip about the fact that a HS band is filling in, so no harm no foul.

....

Now for the more troubling question: I keep hearing this rumor that plane tickets that were reserved for the band were given to big name donors/alums, thus forcing the band onto the busses, which the weather forced into a stay-at-home. This obviously sounds exactly like the kind of thing nasty rumors are made of (It's always fun to blame to school for giving kickbacks to 'the man' provided he writes fat checks :D ) but it's also troubling if it's true. Ooooh, I love a good conspiracy!!!!

As an East High Grad, this really hurts! Solich was the SE Coach when I graduated.......

Go SouthEast Band - very cool you can pick up where the University left us.

I hope you all have the time of your life! Make some wonderful memories!
