Wednesday practice pleases Pelini

Wednesday's practice in the stadium is in the books. For the second straight day, Husker coaches were really enthused about what they saw.

"That was an excellent practice," Husker head coach Bo Pelini said. "I just like the attitude. I just said to the team: I like the way they come into practice. I like their attitude. I like their work ethic. And slowly but surely it's becoming who we are. It's not like we have to go out there and prod them to practice hard. They come out here with the attitude to get better every day. ... We still got work to do, there's still mistakes being made, but the commitment's there."

Pelini added: "We need that to continue because it sets an example for the younger guys and eventually that becomes who you are as a program. It doesn't happen overnight."

Pierre Allen has missed practices this week because of a death in the family, but is expected to come back to Lincoln tonight, Pelini said.

"The guy was a stud to be there last Saturday," Pelini said. "He and his family are going through some tough times."

Pelini said there's no doubt Allen would be in the lineup Saturday against Iowa State.

Cody Glenn and Phillip Dillard "practiced better today," Pelini said. "I think they're getting closer to 100 percent. Phil's doing really well. Cody, a little gimpy, but I think he'll be ready by Saturday."

this is going to start filtering over to saturday........ just give it time.I hope some of the fire in practice is coming from the lines

A good sound practice is great and im glad that the leaders are setting an example for the younger players. Now on the other note my prayers go out to the allen family may stay strong.

My sympathy to the Allen family. I think last Saturday was a step in the right direction. This week we need to continue that, and when adversity arises, meet the challenge. If we are able to do that, it will set the tone for the rest of the season...and I will once again partake some of the :koolaid2:

Until then though...I am skeptical, this team has shown no consistency from week to week. But I do hope that we are headed in the right direction, and don't take a step backward this week.

Good to hear that the practices are going well and they have the attitude to push themselves. That's a big obstacle to overcome for alot of teams. Push yourself to get better and have the right attitude and it will translate onto the field. Prayers go out to Pierre and his family.

Glad to hear that the team is responding well in practice. I really think the team found itself in the second half of that TT game. Let's hope we keep it going the rest of the season. GBR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you look at all of the 2nd season turn arounds for new coaches, it has a lot to do with what Pelini said. It becomes who you are as a program. We may not see the results of the changes this year or even next but this new and improved attitude is going to show up on saturdays and we will like what we see.

You have to build from the ground up. That means starting with a solid foundation.

Practicing well is a big part of that foundation.

Now, if NU can start playing like they practice...it could be a great 2nd half of the season!

I always thought that what Bo said during the week was "coach talk". However, upon further review, maybe it wasn't:

Week of VT game - he stated that the practices were not going very well

Week of Mizzou game - he stated again that the practices were not going very well

Week of Texas Tech game- he stated that the practices were going very well and he was very happy with what he was seeing

Now, which one of these weeks did Nebraska play fairly decent (on Saturday)?
