What did we learn-Game 2 Oregon

They obviously became more conservative in the second half to a degree but they didn't completely shut their offense down either. The 3rd quarter we played solid defensive football all the way around against an offense that was still attempting to do some of the things it was successful with in the first half. That was good. 

That being said Oregon clearly wasn't out to score 42 in the second half, they just wanted to end the game as quickly as they could with a win still intact. 

 
They didn't coast in the third quarter, but they definitely backed off a bit.  Not as aggressive.

They ran it more. And they took fewer shots down the field.  Several of their passes were on more obvious passing downs as opposed to early in their possession.  We did seem to play somewhat better pass defense because we made him take a couple check-downs.  Couldn't really see for sure what the coverage was doing downfield.

Then they fourth quarter they pretty well shut it down.

Also, this is not true.  They basically averaged 5 yards per play on short passes for the entire game, most of which were bubble screens.

Throwing the INT on their second pass of the half (on a downfield throw) probably caused the Oregon coaches to play more conservative as well.

Royce Freeman had 11 carries in the first half.  He carried it on four of their first five plays in the second half.  I would say they thought they had a good enough rushing attack - with one of the better back in the nation - that they could still get some yards running the ball and no take as many chances throwing it.  And then after they threw the interception they decided to mainly stick to running it and throwing safe passes instead of pushing it down the field like they did in the first half.

I'm going to try to watch that Oregon@Wyoming game this weekend. The line is at 13.5 right now. Wyoming's defense has been good but they will get a real test.
