What did we learn-Game 4 Rutgers

Either POB and Gebbia are really worse, a horrifying thought even if they're Freshman.  Or Riley knows he's on his way out so he's not even trying anymore.  I would like to believe that isn't his mindset.

Honestly, I think it's the NFL type mentality.  The starters, especially at QB, are going to get the vast majority of snaps during practice.  I am sure Gebbia is running scout team right now.  I would like to see what POB could do, but Riley is going to stick with Lee, especially with a short week vs. Illinois, then the 2 toughest defenses NU will face all season following that.

If Lee is still struggling after those games, there could be a switch in the bye week after Ohio State.

 
After watching Iowa's defense against Penn State last night, I don't believe anyone would consider us to be the Blackshirts of the Big 10. We have a long way to go to catch up with the leaders in the conference.

 
Mods, legit question here—can we make it so posters have to hit a certain post count before they can open threads?

I learned that perhaps in the last 15-20 minutes of the game, Nebraska somewhat discovered an identity that works for them. My question is whether or not they realize they discovered it.

What did they do? They played strong defense, limited the opponent's rushing (most of the second half in actuality), asserted their will in the rushing game and passed opportunistically. That's a winning strategy for a team that has an anemic quarterback and spotty pass protection. In my opinion, it's the best way for them to win moving forward and to keep the ball out of Tanner Lee's hands as much as possible.

Lee didn't get a lot of favors from his line against NIU, but they played fairly well against Rutgers. Lee rewarded them with some poor decisions on multiple occasions. The first interception was a throw he never should've made and (IIRC) he threw it off his back foot. And then, just before the pick six, he fluttered a weak screen pass that had no zip on it.

I think it's been brought up before. It'd be nice if it was 10-15. This poster has 16 though.

The (main) problem is we often have opposing fans come in to make one post as a new topic and often those are good topics. There might be a way they could automatically monitor new topics by new users but that's more work.

The telling games will be Wisconsin and Ohio State.  Will Langsdorf stick with the run game if it's not working early in the game?  Will Langsdorf go pass-happy after NU falls behind by 7-14 points early in the game.  My issue with Langsdorf is that he generally wants the run game to be "just successful enough" to open up his passing game.  He wants to win games with the pass.

Not to derail the thread, but the issue is accurately described by Moiraine. We don't want to limit or hinder discussion with a post minimum.

The best thing everybody can do is report the post/thread and let the leadership team make a determination.

I don't have much confidence in the Lee/Langs duo which probably goes without saying because I imagine much of the fan base is in the same shoes.

Lee just isn't playing at a high level for whatever reason. Maybe it's mostly him, maybe it's his coaching or maybe it's some combination of the two. The fact that he's thrown more picks than Tommy did last year already AND that he's leading the nation in interceptions thrown is a huge shot in the foot. This team is not talented enough to overcome those kinds of mistakes.

 
Wow, I just saw the Tanner Lee pick 6 highlight (lowlight).  That was as bad as play as I have ever seen a QB make.  Even if Langsdorf said it was his fault after the game, Lee looks like he has no idea how to read coverages.  He threw that in the middle of 3 Rutgers defenders.

Yeah, I pretty much completely disregarded Langs on that one. He was looking out for his guy.

That's a throw Lee can't make and should know he can't make. Same thing with the interception earlier in the game.

Rutgers had 76 yards rushing all game long. I thought we played the run tough all game. In general I thought the defense played tough. Rutgers QB was just over 50% throwing  for 125 and 2 picks. Heck they punted the ball for 260 net yards and put up 200 yards of offense. Now this offense is trash but that's still a solid effort.

The first interception was way worse and something that people killed Martinez and Armstrong for doing, throwing off their back foot, lofting the ball into coverage, and hoping the WR could make a play.  Luckily the D held Rutgers to only a FG following that pick.
