What did we learn?- Michigan State

I learned we're not the only team that will continue to insert an obviously beat-up QB into a game. I feared their QB2 would pick our D apart. I was glad they went back to their gimpy starter.

I also learned this team has some great resilience in fighting through so many things going wrong. They came back and earned that W.
 
1. Special Teams and winning the turnover battle were the difference in this game...and it's nice to see Nebraska on the winning side of those categories.
2. MSU is not a great team and Nebraska was losing in the third quarter. It's great that they were able to come back and win the game, but for Nebraska to win against tougher competition, they are going to need to be focused all 4 quarters.
3. We continue to see challenges with the offensive line and Donovan Raiola should be in the hot seat. I realize Dylan is less mobile than a typical Nebraska QB, but even with that in mind, he rarely has time to get set and make his throws. If Dylan and Dayton were not his nephews, I am convinced he would be gone already.
4. Emmett Johnson is the offensive MVP thus far this year and we need to continue to get him the ball, run or pass. Barney is also a difference maker and needs to get the ball more.
5. The defense made some timely turnovers but still struggles to contain the run.
 
I learned that we have yet to play a game where all three phases (offense, defense, special teams) played very well. Can you imagine the possibilities if that happens?
Today showed us the importance of special teams. If our special teams played half as good as they played today, we would probably win at least 60% of the one score games we lost in the past decade.

But these were southerlies (which might be northerlies down under?) and, what direction are the fields in Australia oriented? And now I forgot the stupid point I was going to make….

On a windy as hell day, both teams averaged 2.2 yards per rush (including sacks). 87 rushing yards for the Spartans, 67 for the Huskers.

What a f*cking stupid game...
 
For a long time it felt like I was at an Iowa spring game. Junk offense, some D and special teams plays.

39 yards rushing, 37 yards passing total with 3 min left in the 3rd.
