What Did We Learn - Ohio State Edition

1.  This was by far the best day for special teams all season.  With that said, we need to see consistency to feel comfortable moving forward.

2.  Ryan Day's days might be numbered at OSU. They just don't look like a dominant team and have no significant wins all season.  Now perhaps they were looking ahead to next week's game, but if they would lose to PSU and Indiana and miss the CFP, Day will be gone.  Even if they make the CFP I can see them losing early which would also not be good news for Day.

3.  Our pass protection and WRs are a mess.  In addition to Satterfield getting the boot, the WR coach needs to be let go as well.  I cannot think of a single phase of offense where there has been noticeable progress since the start of the season.

4.  The D redeemed themselves today after last week's showing.

5.  Rhule still is unable to beat ranked teams and we likely will not face another ranked team all season unless Wisconsin goes on a run against PSU, Iowa and Oregon.  By the way Wisconsin's schedule this year is brutal.

6.  Raiola needs to run the ball more.  We had some of our best drives when he was willing to scramble to make things happen, and in doing so this opened up the run game and should have opened up the passing game if we could do what was mentioned in point 3.

I hope you all watch football games other than Big Red.  The athletes and speed on other teams is a remarkable.  Not talking about the Big 10.  SEC is so far above other conferences in speed and caliber of players.  We live in a fantasy world here. Reality is were still not close to greatness and toughness yet to really compete with big timers.

If anyone's living in a fantasy land it's you.

People seem to say this about the SEC a lot during the season every season, but usually those people work for ESPN, and the postseason often proves them wrong.

On Nebraska players vs. others, not the best of the best, our players are on par as far as what you're talking about. It's only the top 10 teams or so where you can easily see the difference.

Don't we want to become a Top 10 team again?  That my point.  Low hanging fruit.  We are not close to having a roster for competing with the top 25 currently.  I would take that for a start.  WE can not beat ranked teams.  Albeit either coaching or talent or combo of the two, we are not there yet, and miles from being a top 10 team.

If we want a running QB, we recruited and signed that wrong one.  Adrian was a tremendous running QB, but he was all we had for 3 or 4 years and we still couldn't win games.  We need offensive line play and a different coach and recruiter for that area.  Now we all know that we can't fire the O-line coach or we lose our QB.  Will it improve at this rate?  If it doesn't Dylan won't make it thru complete seasons.  The best case scenario is if Donovan Raiola takes a different job an moves on, on his own.   The other scenario is if Dom comes in as CO-line coach.

#2 OSU fans are calling for Day’s head. They are furious with the way their Buckeyes played.

What? We just took OSU to the wire in a game where we weren't gifted any turnovers or flags save for a questionable targeting. Outside of last week, we've looked as competitive against anyone on our schedule. You may want to critique every little thing, but the reality is that today was a good rebound after an ugly performance last week. Hopefully it's a springboard for the last third of the season.

We didn't want a running QB, that's why we aren't starting and playing HH all the time...

Why would anyone think the coaches wanted a running QB... we ran it more with QB last year because they actually did adjust to what they had, which wasn't much, but we had QBs with some running ability. There has been no hint whatsoever that they wanted a running QB.

If that was supposed to be your point, you made it horribly, by talking about how s#!tty everyone is compared to the SEC, which is a bunch of bulls#!t. It seems you are tearing OSU down because we played well against them.

You are wrong about us not being close to having a roster for competing with the top 25. There are other problems; I don't think that's one. And I think you must not watch a ton of football. When you watch teams that are ranked #15 - #40, the players look pretty similar to how our players look, and they also make a lot of mistakes. I believe the problems we have are different than what you think they are.

his comments right after the game complaining about the refs were ridiculous. crying about officiating after you had 3 penalties all day isnt a good look. i hope windiana crushes them followed by another loss to michigan.

Unless OSU wins it all, Day is gone.  Maybe not "fired" but still gone.

I hope so, but we were 5-3 last year, too.  UCLA might be the only team we are favored to beat the rest of the way.  USC should beat us and we always struggle with Wisconsin and Iowa.  We win next week and I can see 7-5.  We lose next week and I can see 5-7.
Welp, we just held OSU to the lowest points they’ve scored all season, and at their stadium.  Our D now has proven abilities on the road against a very good team.  My hopes hinge on those capabilities as development that can show itself again at Iowa and even USC.  Yes we have had troubles with Wisconsin but I just think we have turned a corner on D.
