What Did We Learn - Wisconsin

The Badgers’ leading rusher is a converted walk-on defensive back. The tailback who scored a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter is a true freshman who played linebacker until about a month ago.

The offensive line, because of injury, started its fourth new group in six games. The defense has its share of nicks and knocks, too.

And Stave is a walk-on. And Wisconsin has similar "new staff" issues to the Huskers. And a HC with minimal experience. And they lost Jordan Stevenson who was expected to be their starting RB.

I didn't get any attention at all on that other thread ,so I'm moving this post over here....where it probably belonged anyway.

This seems like as good a thread as any to point out some improvements I've seen. Knowing how we feel about a strong running game, Riley started incorporating the fullback into an offense that really doesn't call for one. Good move....improvement.

The secondary that was ranked #4 in the nation at the start of the season went to dead last (of course there's a trade off when you seek to stop the run and we haven't seen any 408 yard rushing games against us).....this was of course followed by my usual caterwauling about playing tighter coverage and actually looking for and going for the ball. This Wisconsin game I thought we made significant improvement in both aspects, although I think we had some opportunities to take a chance and jump some of the short passes for a possible pick 6 or maybe giving up 20 the other way, that's the chance you have to take. Still, I think the defense overall was not terrible and I continue to be impressed with the effort our guys give. Improvement that I think will only get better.

Kicking game....FG and punting is not the disaster we started with. In this area I think the kickers just had a bad start and now they're doing what they do. Downed at the 1....keep that up.

Our beat up defensive line impressed me with their run stopping and QB pressure.... except on the last drive. These are BIG TEN O-lines they're going against now and except for the obvious strategy lapses, these guys put out a lot of effort. Not hard to see where a healthy line could improve significantly and could get pressure when it needs to so we can stop scratching our heads over the results of the prevent defense calls.

Stave is a walk-on as well.

Positives

Run defense beside fourth quarter

Newby and newby. Both looked good

Alonzo making big play

O line pass pro and solid on run game

Qb counter

Jano

Maliek

Negatives

Dropped picks changed the game. Stave psyche would have been shot if he had 4 picks.

Armstrong looked lost

Pass defense is so bad Wiscy looked explosive

No killer instinct. We play scared the whole fourth quarter

Spec teams penalties. Antonio reed had 2 dumb penalties

Nate gerry not the playmaker we need him to be.

2015 season has sailed and now we play for pride and to avoid humiliation to lose recruits.

As the defense slightly improves, the rest of the team appears to regress. This season is painful.

Also, I hate Wisconsin.

- Janovich is best used sparingly.

- Coaches have no idea what to do at the running back position. The rotation has become extremely painful to watch. Ozigbo has a decent week last week, and he's hardly seen on the field.

- Defense makes any QB look like a Heisman front runner

- DBs still not looking back for the ball - is this what is being coached?

- Catching balls thrown right at you are hard to catch

- M. Newby looked good

- Still don't have a pass rush

- Decent at stopping the run

- LT should not be on the field

- Injuries suck

- Penalties suck

- Losing all the time sucks
