**** What Did We Learn ****

1) The main thing is we got the W. This game could have really gone to either team and glad we pulled out a win as it would have been a bummer to start the year losing near the end of the 4th qtr.

2) Saw some good throws from Tommy today.

3) Good running by Ameer and OL play.

4) Won the turnover battle.

5) Quincy had some big catches.

6) We tackled better today. Andrew Green tackled better than I have seen all year from him.

7) The things we still need to fix. Punt returns are netting us no yardage and killing our field position. Lose the short side option play (been saying this for years...it never works against a legitimate defense). False starts still need to be fixed. UGA converted too many key 3rd downs in my opinion. UGA botched some 4th down conversions too (more on their poor play than a good play from us).

Nice to win, especially since we were not supposed to beat UGA.

Dude, if the 99 yard pass had been incomplete, you'd be on here totally complaining about it . All-in-all, Beck called a very good game. People forget that the guy is only in his third year.
Two things. First, in that situation, there was really no right or wrong call. I mean, a run could get stuffed just as easy as a sack and if you throw a pick it's essentially punting. It was a lucky play but luck is part of the game. Second, clock management in the 4th qtr was bad. The 3 & out with 13 minutes left where we didn't burn any clock, snapping the ball with 9 seconds left on the play clock when we were trying to burn clock, and the 3rd and 4 where we passed.

It's perfectly fine for people to criticize the coaches on here. My god this team isn't perfect. There is always room for improvement, and I simply stated where I saw it. I wasn't complaining.

Beck had some great calls, no question. But passing on 3rd and 6 with 3:30 left instead of rushing to kill the clock even if you dont pickup the first proved he doesnt grasp the management role yet.
That was questionable, and it was 3rd and only 4 not 6. I don't understand how the ball is not in your best player's hands in that situation. Give it to Ameer and let him make a play. As my grandpa always said, you dance with the one that brought you.
4 yards is even more clear you call the run. Like I said, even if your short, you still killed a minute or more by the time they get the ball back.
Yep

1. Bo deserves some credibility for this win and the defensive turnaround this season.

2. Abdullah is the best back we've seen since Ahman Green.

3. We are going to miss Quincy Enunwa. (Spelling?)

4. WR need work with the hands.

5. QB's and receiving corps need to work together this off-season on timing. Coaches can't do everything for you.

6. Armstrong is a gamer.

7. Staff changes are needed. (See below)

8. This win was a huge boost for next season.

Beck is absolutely in way over his head. He has no idea how to manage the game. You don't call a play that can stop the clock on 3rd down like that. Run the ball.

A: It's four yards. You might pick up the first down.

B: Make them burn a timeout.

C: You burn another 40 seconds off the clock.

Special Teams are an absolute disaster. Hand the responsibility off to someone else.

TE's were disappointing this year. That needs to be evaluated.

This team has a ton of talent coming back next year. We are a consistent offense and cleaner special teams away from being a top 10 team.
ST is non-existent. We don't set up a punt return nor attempt to block them. That phase of the game is completely lost on this staff. Our punting needs to dramatically improve as well.

TE's are eligible receivers. I wish that Beck would realize this. We have had some with huge potential ie Reed, McNeill etc.... and none have panned out. They get completely lost in this jeckyll/hyde offense we run. They could be HUGE. UGA's TE caught almost 1/3 of his season total today, in one game and we really had no answer. He catches that one at the end and we lose.

Great win against a pre-season top 5 SEC team. Weather, injuries or what ever excuse people want to throw out, we beat them in basically their back yard. Again, great win. We really have the potential to be very good on D. Just need to realize that TE's are our kryptonite as are the RB wheel routes from the back field.

A perfect way to enter the off season IMO.
Fully agree with everything. This feels like the huge boost this team needed. The players confidence level should be pretty high through the spring and fall. Also hope this win might help snag a few late recruits.

This is just insane and demonstrates no understanding of football.

Beck made the same call almost every successful coach would make in the same situation, and made another call that a lot of coaches wouldn't, and it turned out to be pretty legendary. The amount of time you'd drain with a running play makes little difference when there's still three and a half minutes. Either way would leave plenty of time for Georgia to make a last drive. The first down was key. Draining clock was not.

They rode Abdullah for 27 carries and he did his job like the workhorse he is. I'm almost dumbfounded there are still people on here contending that Beck abandoned the run when we needed it most, but then every one of these fancy-pants forward passes seems to get their panties in a bunch.

Jesus, people complain we're not using Newby enough. Nothing wrong with that shovel pass call, either. Unless you geniuses predicted our back-up RB would invariably turn upfield before securing a ball put directly in his hands. It was a good call precisely because Abdullah was taking a breather and Newby would draw less attention.

1. Beck is allergic to the run game, especially when it matters most...
For the game, we threw 16 times and ran 43 times.

In the second half, we threw 7 times and ran 23 times.

In the fourth quarter, we threw 4 times and ran 13 times. We threw once in the last 10 minutes (on third down) - the other three were on 2nd or 3rd and 8+.

This was in a game we won by 5. Are people only going to be happy if we never pass?

You guys do realize that Georgia still had time outs left right? They would still have had the same amount of time, no matter what we did on that play.

yes, thank you. great post. very well said. and the underline is what i have been trying to get across all day. excellent post.

and they had 30 whole seconds left at the 4th and 3. so, had they scored, there still would have been time on the clock. the clock was not going to be an issue, unless they scored. then it would have been for us.

That this team (especially the defense) improved a lot this year, and I am perfectly OK with Bo being with us next season.

I really don't care about the clock issue, not my point. I was agreeing to the run call. I have a good understanding of football. I put the ball in my best player's hands and let him make the play to win the game if it is possible.

However, I am not one who has been critical of Beck all season. I think he is a good coach. I find it funnythat he was the greatest OC in the country last year and now he is an idiot.

overall, this was a great post. but you also revealed the secret to being the perfect oc:

1. be able to predict the future.

2. see what would happen if you call a pass play.

3. if it is a reception, call a pass play.

4. if it is a drop, call a run.

Agreed......I thought our offensive game plan was really good today. We maximized our strengths and put Armstrong in situations to avoid turnovers.
