Part of what happened is we played Rutgers.
another part of it is we played Michigan State.
Yes, we are a .500 team that pulls an upset once in a while. Vintage Mike Riley. Exciting.
We are a potentially .500 team this season like Michigan State was a .500 team in 2012. Beat Iowa and we'll have two wins over Top 10-15 programs in a season for the first time since I don't know when.

Can you just go away already?
If he bothers you that much just ignore him, but you dont have a right to tell others how to be a fan of the team.
Hmmmm...wait a minute...are you telling him how to be a fan of the team? :-) I do agree, the ignore function is great, except that when someone quotes a person you've put on ignore...you still get to occasionally see their soggy cornflakes....such is life...

Maybe Riley showing the door to a couple of players was a wake up call? You're "N" or don't let the door hit you on the way out. That would get my attention having a schollie pulled.

A combo of some coaching, some buy in, some players getting back from injury, and just some plan ol' luck.

This.

This team still isn't all that good, to be clear. But they can play when they put it all together. They were never as bad as their record showed; four games lost on the final play will do that. Of course, we also got the Michigan State game that could easily have ended differently.

Really, the only glaringly terrible performance was Purdue. Look up the injury/suspension list for that game. It wasn't pretty. And the only thoroughly promising outing in conference play has been Michigan State. They tried pretty hard to hand that game back to Rutgers, but fortunately survived the turnovers and hung on.

It's a team that is capable of, but will require all hands on deck and a Herculean effort, taking down possibly undefeated Iowa.
