What is our record next year?

Well, the last six years has the Big10 bowl record of 16 - 28. Wow......hardly impressive.

But hopefully having a ccg will help the Big10 in the bowls and of course we hope NU notches some big wins for us too.

Yes, that bowl record is not impressive but what's the Big 12's record, PAC 10, ACC? Anyone care to look that up?

The Big 10 has been relatively down the last 6 years too with Mich being down and PSU being avg at best.

The B10 also (IMO) has the toughest bowl alignments of any conference with match-ups solely with the SEC, Pac 10 and B12. No Big East, ACC, Conf USA.

The Big 10 has played virtual away games in these bowls. 3-4 times against USC in the Rose Bowl, Texas schools in the Alamo Bowl and SEC schools in Florida or New Orleans. Look at the 2008 Capital One Bowl (UM vs UF) - 85% Florida Fans; 2007 Alamo (PSU vs Texas AM) - 90% A&M fans; last years Surgar (OSU vs Ark) - 95% Ark fans.

The B10 also has been very even head to heat against the SEC in the BCS era in bowl games. What other conference can claim that.

The media and others have crucified OSU for losing big games on a national stage but look at their BCS record. Look at Oklahoma's BSC record but Oklahoma was not ridiculed like OSU has been. Oklahoma finally got a BCS win this past year because they got an easy match-up in UConn.

To say, "and yes, Nebraska used to be big and slow," when you're referring to the 1990's is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Nebraska was big, strong, bruising, and lightining fast. Not even remotely slow.

NU was big and slow, although faster than what Wisconsin is now up until 1993, when the staff made a change for the better and installed speed and smaller LB's and DE's. I'm not stupid. Keep on livin your Wisconsin dream. They are average. And yea, OU or Okla State would have laid the wood to them last year. Pointless to argue this. I believe the entire Big 10 in fairly weak on a regular basis, less OSU, its why they constantly get rolled in bowl games. Nebraska has not been great, we all know as much. They have the potential to be great and IMO, Wisconsin does not. Wisconsin gets as much as possible out of the talent they have. Credit them for that, but they are nothing special.

Yeah they had to replace slow and ineffective guys like Alberts.

I mean, most of the teams in the Big 10 lack overall team speed and it really shows in Bowl season every year. They prefer a bruising, grinding style of play, which is fine, but come time to play a team that can really run, they have serious issues. Ohio State is probably the fastest team in the Big 10, and they even look a bit slow at times. Just because you put in a 200lb LB, doesnt mean he can run. It's a HUGE reason why the Big 10 has 2 NC's in over 40+ years (and both of those were flukes). They just cannot run. These teams are gonna have trouble with the team speed NU presents. Sorry, the truth cuts deep at times!

Well, if you were paying attention, Alberts was playing rush end at 235lbs in 1993 and was an all-american and Butkus award winner and led the team and confrence in sacks.

You realize TCU was only held in the 20's twice last year and the lowest score they got was by who? (not that Wiskey did all that great in that game either) Missery hung 36 on OK but could only put up 24 on a depleated Iowa? And Missery could only get 23 on ILL. I would say that's pretty good for a big heavy slow run stopper/power run big ten would'nt you? I just think you are trying to make something out of nothing. Infact all the numbers I and creed have posted say otherwise. If you look it up and compare speed, besides a few smaller people like Denard and T-mart, almost all of them match up pretty evenly for speed. I am not saying there is not an exception now and again, but overall it's a misconception about the b10.

I am also finding this argument increasingly hard, first you are talking about LB's, now you are talking about the O's running the ball.

I have a feeling you're going to be tremendously shocked in our first couple of Big Ten games when Nebraska doesn't sprint away from these guys. The Big Ten hasn't been a "three yards and a cloud of dust" conference for quite a while. Having the ability to run the ball does not automatically mean they're slow, just like Nebraska's focus on the run in the next few years won't mean we're slow, either.

Surely you're old enough to remember the hype around the bowl games in 1993, 1994, 1995 & 1997, when we played FSU, Miami, Florida and Tennessee, all south teams with big speed advantages over Nebraska (so it was claimed). I seem to recall our "corn fed smash mouth" football team having no trouble keeping up with FSU in 93, and I think you remember quite well who was gassed and gasping for breath on the sidelines in the Orange Bowl in 94. If that didn't convince you, trouncing SEC teams Florida and Tennessee in 95 and 97, both times featuring elite speed when the rap on Nebraska and the Big 8 was that we were these big, slow ground-pounders, should have.

We will not suddenly become a Ferrari amongst Pintos in this conference. Every game is going to be a dogfight. We just have to be the tougher dog.

Oh common man, TCU played a schedule full of cream puffs. Lets not make TCU out to be some world beater, they aren't. Wisconsin was by far and away the best team they played. Those two teams have comparable athletes, it was a close game, just like it should have been. Its fair to say we disagree on this issue. I have always thought the Big 10 was a slow confrence as a whole, and I stand by that. The Big 10 does not run like the SEC or the Big 12 or even the Pac 12. There are exceptions, but they are far few in between.

I'm certain Ohio State has enough team speed to match ours. They've made recruiting speed a focus for a decade. The Huskers and Buckeyes may be the two fastest teams in the Big 10, but the better teams aren't far behind. The bottom-feeders are, of course, going to be slow. Good point. Furthermore, in my opinion, Ohio State is the most talented team in the Big 10 across the board and more talented than we are. I think we're a close second and then it's everybody else.

HIO, I get it, I get it, the 90's huskers were the only team ever to put together a big AND fast team, infact since then the kids coming into D1 ball have gone down hill and I dont know how anyone even puts together a team anymore. Nebraska hasn't been slow on offense since the early 1980's, when we had Turner Gill, Irving Fryar, Mike Rozier, and Roger Craig running around. Our defense was what we changed in the early 1990's, when we went from an outdated 5-2 base to the 4-3. Why in the world would you compare Wisconsin's defense, or any of those other teams' defenses, to that old 5-2 we used to run? All of the modern Big 10 defenses are faster than that, nobody is as behind the times as we were back then.

Our defense is a little ahead of the times now, I could agree with that assertion, and I think we'll have the best defense in the league. And while we could hold a slight speed advantage over most of the teams in the league - that was also true when we played Iowa State. We're going into a conference where most teams are blue-collar teams like Iowa State has been the past few years, but with much more talent.
