Are people naive enough to think some of our players don't get taken care of by boosters once they get to campus? It happens here, it happens everywhere. No competitive advantage is gained doing that though.
NU hasn't been in the business of buying recruits recently, but that would certainly help us win. NU's done it in the past. Plenty of schools at the top do it now.
I would like to see proof of that.
Just to be clear, do you believe Nebraska has never committed an NCAA violation in regards to recruiting, or do you believe they've just never once tried to pay for a recruit in a way that would violate NCAA rules? Or both?
Or is it something you think people shouldn't talk about unless there's actual proof to back it up?
I'm not trying to put you on the defensive - just trying to understand what you're saying.
I believe it would be unreasonable to think NU has never committed a recruiting violation, there are so many rules how can you not break one from time to time due to any number of factors.
I believe Osborne and Solich both had enough integrity to not pay players to come to NU. Callahan, probably. Pelini, I don't think he would have either, not smart enough to do it without getting caught, or blabbing it out in a burst of anger. Riley, I think he belongs in the same category as Tom and Frank. That said, I would be very disappointed to find out we had paid players to come to Lincoln. That would be an example of the kind of institutionalized cheating I just couldn't abide. I can understand mistakes, we all make them including me but paying players could never be construed as a simple mistake.
You shouldn't state it as fact without being willing and able to back it up with proof. If you want to speculate, fine, just don't call it fact when you are unwilling/unable to provide proof that it is indeed a fact.
I hope this clears things up a bit.
