What makes Suh special?

No athlete, including the one seemingly hand-picked for competitive greatness, can simply step on a football field and achieve instant success.

It takes a special set of skills, and even then, some of the most physically blessed can't master its particulars.

Tiger Woods golfs. Roger Federer plays tennis. Usain Bolt runs track. Michael Phelps swims. In their particular sports, they're the world's finest athletes — yet none of them seems tailored to fully excel in a helmet and pads.

Because in football, the formula for a perfect player is complicated. The best are a blend of many talents and qualities. At Nebraska, the coaching staff might have stumbled upon someone who possesses such an amalgamation.

Senior Ndamukong Suh isn't perfect. He'd be the first to tell you that.

Still, though, he's a 6-foot-4, 300-pound athlete, who has the ability to dominate games. He's quick, but powerful at times too. He's emotional and aggressive, but has the smarts to know when to control those traits. He's downright “freakish,” said Carl Pelini, the NU defensive coordinator and line coach.

Suh must have been born to play football. Said Pelini: “He's different. There's no question. You can go your whole career and not have a player like him.”

So what makes Suh special? It’s everything, from the head to the toes. Suh has it all.

Suh is an absolute monster. We are so lucky he stayed on this season, not just because it may directly effect the outcome of a few games, but for the future of the defense. Having a leader like him on the field is worth his weight in muscle. Hopefully what he cements as a foundation for the Pelini Brothers era of defense will be continued long after he's strapping it up on Sundays.
