I don't like "forcing" guys to get reps in a game. Dana went with EJ for a reason. We definitely need another RB to step up for sure, but find one in practice, not in a game. For too many years IMHO, we have tried this running back committee. We have a 1a, 1b, sure, but if there is such a drop that in game one they only get a few touches theres a reason for that. So they shine the next 2 games and we throw in guys who can't perform against better competition Michigan they get smoked... Like my dad always told me, wish in one hand and sh!t in the other and see which fills up first.... I also don't want Rhule/Dana to create unnecessary drama.
On another note is EJ Barthel a legit RB coach? Leading rusher in 2023 was HH with 483 yards. 2024 Dowdell with 614 (EJ with 598). Of course each year the leading RB never played the next year. EJ is the first. So Barthel hasn't had a lot to work with. Sad that Oz in 2018 was the last 1000 yard rusher. AA in 2014 before that. So just 2 in 10 years. We won't win anything of note until that changes....If my search is correct only 9 teams have won a NC w/out 1000 yard rusher...of those only 3 had runners with less than 800 yards. I'm run the damn ball guy and am ready for NU to you get back to a RB that can change the game. IMHO, I think it'd be easier with a QB who can actually throw like DR. Of course that will take away RB touches, but should also allow or RB's to not face loaded boxes.
