What NU can learn from Lil' Red

Man was I wrong about Rutgers.

Very impressed!
their (Rutgers) D line averaged 254 lbs. against O line for Louie weighing 307 lbs...gave away over 50 lbs. per guy and ran around them and kept pressure on the qb and running backs...quickness often beats size, do we need to learn that lesson...?? speed, speed, speed!
Sure hope Cos was watching that game last night. What a tremendous example of how a speedy defense can shut down a prolific offense. Whether or not you think the Big East is overrated, Louisville has a pretty potent offense and little Rutgers managed to shut them down for an entire half, and the second half, to boot.

I don't much care about the Big East, or anyone else's conference. I consider the last five or six years to be an aberation in the space time continuum. Shortly, the wrinkle in the universe will be smoothed out and Nebraska will return as the standard bearer for all aspects of collegiate football. :corndance

Meanwhile, they could take a lesson from them east coast types who invented the game. :)

:bonez -------> But be fast about it!

There is a whole lot more to Rutgers defense than just speed. They had a great scheme which involved a lot of stunts, slants, and loops along their d-line and linebackers. They ran a ton of blitzes that helped their defensive backfield not become exposed because of their lack of talent. I do agree, that we need more speed on our team, but don't forget that scheme goes a long ways in a teams success no matter if they have great speed or not.

The SEC shows that with speed a defense can be dominant. All the defenses there have small guys that can fly, which is why they have some of the best D's in the nation.

The coaches don't need to watch games. They only need to read this board.

That comment is pure genious!

There can be some arguement made that the SEC defenses are so good because the SEC offenses are so bad. The SEC doesnt play enough games vs decent non-SEC opponents to find out.

That is a good point. Last year I would have taken that and run with it, but I think the offenses are better this year. We should find out come bowl season though how good the teams are. Last year, the SEC lost a lot of bowl games, including West Virginia beating Georgia.
