What Season Would You Prefer?

2009 definitely. we had a shot to win the conference championship. You can't say that for the 2012 season.
I really wish that we would be a ton more selective on the posts and posters we filter here. The above is a long line of stupid posts from a poster with a very well documented pedigree of stupid posts. You can't possibly say that going into that 2012 game that you didn't think we had a chance. Against Texas in 09 we weren't even favored to win that game. You are basing your opinion on one game and using it to take a cheap shot at the program. Go to HuskersOnline and you'll fit right in. But you won't here.

The score was 31-35 halfway through the third quarter.
After about the 11 minute mark in the second quarter, Ohio State scored 56 points. Nebraska scored 14 in the same span. And after about three minutes to go in the second quarter, we relinquished the lead permantently. Although it wasn't as shocking of a blowout as Wisconsin, we played from behind most of the game and after about the midway point in the second quarter I felt that we didn't really have a shot.

It's a subjective and slightly skewed viewing of the matter, I agree. It was simply the feeling I got while watching.

If anything EZ, the majority of HuskerNation probably felt a little over confident going into Indianapolis. Coming close against Texas in '09 was no where near the shocker that that debacle last year was.

It's those Ohio State and Wisconsin games that are really tough to find any excuses for.
We got straight up out-coached and out-played, but especially outcoached. The way they embarrassed our defense suggested a serious lack of adjustments. That said, I seriously doubt our coaches failed to tell the players what adjustments to make. Our players simply couldn't make them or execute them, which opens up an entirely separate pool of problems.

For whatever reason, the coaches told players to do something and they couldn't do it on a consistent basis.
Mental exhaustion. it's the most undersold fact of the end of the 2012 season. This is not PS2 or Xbox. These guys got mentally worn down, they stepped back to take one little breath before the CCG, and ended up getting their asses handed to them.
This is completely inexcusable though. Mentally unprepared for a championship game? I know they spent half the season coming back from deficits, but there was a lot on the line for this game and it had big implications. To tank it like they did made no sense. Take a week off after the CCG. Hell, take a month off, because that's what you get.
Didnt say it was excuseable. But it's still fact. We can all speculate scheme this and jetsweep that but the bottom line is coaches and players alike were used up. The tank was empty. Then we lost the main cog for our interior lines-on both sides of the ball. It was just set up as a perfect storm. As mentioned earlier, too much stress on winning out to get to Indianapolis and not enough on winning out including Indianapolis. Then we get there, and we're facing a team that we already beat once, who's happened to lose their last 2 games and have a 7-5 record. Made it pretty easy to no want to get up as needed after the stretch our guys just went through. It was mental exhaustion. And it does need corrected.

2009--Nebraska won the Big XII title during regulation time.

We actually did win. Texass had to cheat their way to the title, and Karma bit them in the a$$ during the NC game for their cheating ways.

Actually i can. We had an awesome defense that could keep us in games. The only thing the offense had to do was not turn the ball over. Just because we aren't favored doesn't mean we can't win. That's why you play the game. The only game we got beaten by more than a couple of points during the whole season was Texas Tech. The 2009 team only lost 3 games during the regular season. The 2012 got demolshed twice during the regular season and didn't even bother showing up for the conference championship.

So are you saying you knew before the B1G Championship game, that we were going to get thumped by Wisconsin?

Or or Pelini got out coached again on the national stage. I might agree with you about mental exhaustion if we hadn't been getting blown out for the past 2 years. Plus it's always harder the second time around to beat a team twice during the season.

I had a feeling that somewhere in the conference championship or bowl game we were due for another blowout. Those comeback wins wouldn't last the whole season. Plus those comeback wins weren't against the better teams. I did have a feeling we were in trouble.

In 2009, when we were walking in to play the #2 team in the country in their own backyard, with an offense that could barely score 14 points you were more confident in winning that game?

Skeptical hippo here...

yeah. we only really had 1 bad game and then that got fixed. we could have easily walked in the Big 12 Championship game with 1 loss. We relied on our strengths which were our D and running game. We didn't have to score a lot of points when our D kept the other team out of the endzone. Had we scored a td in the Championship game we would've won the conference.

To each his own, but at the time I thought we didn't have a shot to hang with Texas. I was way more confident going in to last years Big Ten Championship game against a 5 loss Wisconsin team.
