What Should Expectations Be?

Baby steps. The first goal we have to accomplish before we reach our ultimate goal is winning our conference. It appears we're farther away from that now than we were three years ago. Blowout losses suck, but I could tolerate a blowout loss to #1 Bama in a bowl. Heck, we tolerated several of those when TO was the coach. I cannot tolerate a blowout loss to unranked five loss Wisconsin. Maybe the first goal we really need to achieve is having both sides of the ball on the same page. In 08', the offense carried the team. In 09' and 10', the defense carried the team. Last year and this year, the offense has again had to carry the team. We need both units to be acceptable in order to achieve any goal.

Not quite correct there stumpy. I have said for the last 5 years, we are not going to be as good as we think we are, never been close to negative on the win loss until this year. I think we were lucky not to have a few more losses this year. Noramlly I pick around 8-4, where I expect we will be next year.

We were lucky this year period. But of course we whave the magic 9-10 wins, with horendous a$$ whippings and we are happy.

Tell me if KState were to lose their whole defense and had 10 freshmen coming in next year would you say they should end up in the Fiesta Bowl. Doubtfull

You guys can not take off the Husker glasses. I through mine away the last year of Clownahan. Never going to wear them again. We ended up better than I thought we would, fantastic, but it was very close to being a nightmare. Try to admit that and then you will see where I am coming from.

It will be tough next year, and here we are loading as much preasure on them as we can, Rose Bowl or bust. bullsh#t!!!! Win what were supposed to win, play respectable in the others. Lose what we lose and if we end up being in the outside toilet bowl so be it. Just be the best we can be, and most of that is pointed at the staff. Forcing a new inexperienced defense next year is not planning. It is stupidity. And it is going to hurt us the start. Now the following year, I can see the growth pattern if they are any better than what we put on the field this year. We have to hope for that, as we have seen nothing to prove it.
skers your being a little over the top here. Nebraska will not be starting 10 freshman on defense without any experience. NU has 3 defensive linemen coming back with starting experience Ankra, Rome and Randle. They have 1 LB back with starting experience Santos, and at least 5 or 6 dbs with starting experience. The media only says x number of returning starters. To them to be a starter they have to have started at least half the season. There is some experience coming back, even if it is not alot, but it is way more than 1.

K-State won't be in the Fiesta Bowl next year because Klien is graduating. Unless they they have someone lined up behind him that has all of his intangables they are at least a 4 loss team next year.

I know your a realist and lost your husker glasses years ago. I guess I would call you a glass half empty guy. I don't see anything wrong with being a sunshine pumper and getting excited about next year. If you think Nebraska was just lucky to win some of there games last year that is fine with me. Luck is always needed to win at some point. If you don't think so just ask Alabama after they lost to A&M and then have Oregon and KSU lose the next week.

Hey it's college football its suppose to be fun. I guess I don't see much fun in being a realist.

I don't expect KState in the Fiesta either.

Just get tired of the over top we will win it all next year drivel.

We have several tough games next year, UCLA, Michigan, Michigan State, and Northwestern. And if we are lucky enough to get by all of those unscathed we will face Wisconsin or Ohio State.

Some stating that only a BCS birth is acceptable is just too much for me.

We are not a BCS level team, ever so obvious this year. Just because the schedule is percieved to be easier, we heap more preasure on the staff and the team.

All I want is a team that plays every game, plays respectable, both players and coaches. If we end up 8-4 and gave a good accounting of ourselves I am happy. We are just not playing at that level, staff or players currently. There are teams out there that will kill us, but Wisconsin should not be one of those

Georgia, Ohio State, I can see them man handling us. But like I said after the Georgia game the kids did their best and the staff got them to play to their limits. No complaints. Complaints come from people stating the D played good. 500 yards is not good, no matter who you are playing. Good effort, and that is to be admired both player and staff wise. And I have stated that.

I would focus on the quality of play and coaching more than necessarily just wins, losses, championships etc. Don't lead the nation in fumbles, figure out some way to not have a simple screen play go for 87yds , or a jet sweep beat us to death for an entire game! Mostly, whoever were playing ,look like we belong on the same field, play sound and compete. Wins and championships will happen if we do that.
