What they're saying about us

International Man of Mystery
From the KC Star:

*** “We were taking this game as an opportunity for us to show the world how good we were and we came in and fell flat on our faces.”

- wide receiver Chris Harper

*** “This one sucks. This loss sucks. We have got to come back from this.”

- offensive lineman Zach Kendall

*** “When I looked up, [Taylor Martinez] was already 50 yards down the field. I went to the sideline and tried to figure out what was going on and what they were doing so we could do something to stop it. It just happened so fast.”

- cornerback David Garrett

*** Uh-oh. This is no good. Not for the rest of us, not the ones left to watch Nebraska run through its eight remaining Big 12 games and leave as something like the permanent reigning conference champion.

The school with the fans a little too willing to tell you how great they are picked the absolute worst season to regain its powerhouse mojo.

This Big 12 breakup already felt like Nebraska moving on to a better relationship, and after a 48-13 debilitation of Kansas State here in front of a national television audience on Thursday night, it looks like the Huskers will get our shiny football championship trophy in the settlement.

- Sam Mellinger (KC Star Reporter) Note - Mellinger's whole article is pretty funny. Lot's of crying-in-your-beer. LINK

From the Kansas State Collegian (college paper):

*** "I knew we'd have trouble with (Martinez). How much, I didn't know. He made it look awfully easy. He's a tremendous athlete and obviously has excellent speed. He's quick and he's fast, and we're not very fast. That's not a good matchup."

“I'd be concerned if we got over it in a heartbeat. Maybe it would mean we don't care enough. If it doesn't pain us, it sends a bad message.''

- Bill Snyder

*** "It's always frustrating when a team is gashing you. You've just got to go to the sideline and try to fix it and keep fighting. We've got to put (this game) behind us, but we've also got to also fix the things that we had trouble with."

“Film speed is different. You think you're faster than most guys you see. Once in the game, [Martinez] got to moving kind of quick. After a while, you kind of get used to it. You should be able to adjust. But we weren't able to adjust.

''It was embarrassing. It's always frustrating when a team is gashing you.''

"I thought he was the fastest I've ever seen at quarterback. If you've got a good angle on him, he can still outrun you."

- defensive end Antonio Felder

Some more quotes from K-State players:

*** “Especially with Nebraska being my home state, I really wanted it tonight. You have your ups and downs, and tonight definitely was a down for us. Hopefully, something like this won't happen again.''

— Kicker Josh Cherry

Interesting tidbit from Alonzo Whaley from Ubben's blog:

The defenses will get better than Kansas State, who entered Thursday night's game as the Big 12's worst run defense and outside the top 100 nationally. But Nebraska's got a pretty good one, and they held Daniel Thomas, the Big 12's leading rusher, to just 63 yards on 22 carries, almost 100 yards below his average of 157 a game.

But those same Blackshirts hate seeing Martinez every day as much as Kansas State did on Thursday, and the Wildcats only had to fail at catching him for a little more than three quarters.

"It's frustrating," said Nebraska linebacker Alonzo Whaley. "You never know what to expect from him. What you saw out here today, we've seen all camp. It's good to see him execute, and it's really confusing. It bothers us a lot. It bothers the defense when there's somebody so explosive."

"The hardest part is knowing he can outrun you," Whaley said.

This statement alone, if it comes to fruition, makes it worth all the millions of dollars that we paid to leave.

I think opposing writers and fans feel more hatred towards NU leaving b/c NU is starting to gain more momentum in taking back their place among the nations best. If this was still the BC years and had run of the mill teams then there would be a different attitude towards NU. Yes traditions and storied years are over with the move, but just kind of shows the obvious envy towards NU, and how blind most fans and writers are to what Texas did to the Big 12. Maybe I am wrong, but have not read or heard about much crap giving to Colorado moving to the Pac 10 <_< Sorry folks NU did not ruin the Big 12, get over it and open your eyes!

I never thought about it like that. I guess for the old Big 8 teams we (and OU) were the guys to beat. All of those years with out winning just to see OU/NU fight it out again. We are the singular focus of their hate. How many other teams had red letter days, coaches calling us out, etc? When we leave that is all gone, KSU doesn't care if they lose to MU, at least not on a primal level, it means nothing to them, but to just once jump up and kick the big guy in the nuts, that is the crap that keeps them up at night, and for KSU at least, we have taken that away from them forever....

Even though we ended up with a heated and exciting (and unfortunately one-sided) rivalry with Texas, the Big-12 was always a forced marriage that sucked most of the tradition out of the Big 8. So although I was honestly shocked when the move to the Big 10 actually happened, it only took a few minutes to get over it.

[ agree, if Texas wants to run the show, POT, let them play a crap schedule, they will be the new Boise State.

David Garrett's comment had me in tears laughing. It sounded more like a train accident, "It happened so fast i didn't know what was going on." You were getting your a$$ spanked, that's what was happening, lol.

And I couldn't be happier about that. :)
