What we learned today

That there are a couple of really sore loser tiger fans on this site (see threads title "thugs' and "crowd chants overrated") Our defense was awesome today. That Blaine Gabbert is the REAL DEAL. Very accurate with an absolute rifle. Shook off a couple of huge hits, took big plays on the ground. That Pinkle is a complete bozo. Shotgun 2 plays inches from the goalline?
Tongue firmly in cheek on the thread about chanting: http://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/48032-official-missouri-game-discussion/page__view__findpost__p__686453
I see, and your graciousness is greatly appreciated on that post. Maybe i'm taking the overrated thing wrongly? Seems kind of sore, but i will say NOT NEARLY AS SORE AS THE THUGS THREAD.
Just venting, it was a tough loss.
Dude, you've posted that link in 32 different threads so far, we get it

I think Henery's block was more situational than any one not getting the job done. It showed on tv Bo asking Alex about the kick prior, Alex didnt look as confident as normal. remember the wind starting to pick up out the north early third. At 51 yards, he was trying to give it a little more line shot than usual, and it was just too low.

I think Henery was just unlucky. The only guy on MU's front that got his hand up managed to hit the ball. It happens.

This team still puckers and can't keep their foot on the throttle.
It's not like our QB was injured or anything. Sorry we can't score 24 points every quarter. Does any game, in which we don't score 96 points, upset you?
Your clueless, it's not the score. It's called maintaining the execution, fundamentals, and intensity for 4 qtrs.
I'm with MCAT. Martinez being hurt had nothing to do with failing to put the foot on the throttle. He had four whole drives (plus a fifth post-injury that doesn't really count) in the second quarter, to keep the foot on the throttle, but instead got antsy, started making mistakes, along with a bad break or two along the way. That's where we failed to keep the foot on the throttle. Along with Lee's first drive, after which we stopped even trying to put the foot on the throttle and set down in cruise control with Roy Helu.

This isn't meant to take away from a magnificent first quarter that had some smart, on-target passes from Taylor, and gave us a 24-0 lead. But Missouri got kept in the game, and pulled within 24-14, because of those 5/6 drives between Roy Helu monster TDs. Those drives averaged probably barely a minute and a half, and resulted in nothing.

We can run with out t-mart

The D is great

T-mart can throw

This game seems to have less option play ..... mu guess is that is a factor in the zero turnovers.

We just beat a top ten team that was on a roll

I learned a few things ..

Ciante Evans - you are going to ball out for years to come. I had heard good things about you, but I did not know you were already THAT good.

Prince Amukamara - really do not know of anyone better covering crossing routes and slants than him. He can REALLY read this play and drive on them. I think teams are going to use more double moves on him, because he will bite quite a bit.

Defensive line - 4 man rush, good pressure. 3 man rush, no pressure. Kinda sad though that we get no respect in regards to holding calls, because Crick's jersey was ripped to shreds in the 1st half from the holding he was fighting through.

Courtney Osborne - Dude is gonna be an enforcer on the back-end in the coming years. He can get the big hit, but he knows when to look for it, and when to break down for a tackle as well.

Offensive line - When these guys man up, they can be one of the better units in the country. Today, they manned up just like they did against Washington. Still struggling a bit up the middle in pass pro, but they were incredibly good today.

Ben Cotton - Guy will not get the credit he deserves, but the boy has been mauling folks all year while blocking at TE. The block to spring Roy's 1st TD was beautiful in how he took two guys out of the play. He won't show up in the stat sheet, but I know the coaches absolutely love the kid for what he does for the team.

Kyler Reed - From practice superstar, to slowly turning into on-field superstar. It's almost funny how our TE is our biggest deep threat as a receiver. But hey, when you have the speed and athleticism at TE like he does, who cares? Everyone always knew when it finally clicked on the field for Kyler, he would become a weapon. He is now a weapon.

Roy Helu - Likely one of the most unheralded players in Nebraska history. Someone can be so close to breaking into the top 5 rushers of all-time at Nebraska, but yet hardly gets any credit. Will likely end up top 3-4 rushers all time at this university, all the while he did it so quietly and without much mention. It's sad, but yet incredible at the same time.

Today though, Roy made sure that no one can ever forget him at Nebraska because his name will likely be in that record book for a long, long time.

What I learned today, is that I cringe every time someone from NU lays a good, solid hit, for fear that the Tejas 12 will review it and suspend one of our players

He has certainly made a rise...was this expected, on your part? What does our safety depth chart look like now, going forward this year? With Smith, Cassidy, Gomes, Osborne, West. It looks like we are going Dime with Gomes...

Also: Ressel doesn't belong in the same conversation with Henery.
Henery's kick is more-so on the offensive line and Missouri's D than anything else. Sometimes, a defender is just going to get their hands in the right place. That kick would have gone in without the block.

I think the block was just a lineman making a great play. And the play calling for the 2nd quarter was not very good. Would've liked to see more straight slashing up the gut but hindsight's 20/20. Overall we gave the ball back to roy when we really needed to.

Also like to add that roy will go down as one of my favorite huskers of all time. Love his quiet determination and his running style. Love his hurdles and his big play ability.

To a point, yes.

Last year I said quite a few times I expected Smith and Osborne to be our safeties of the future. I was 50% right, but it just took Osborne a bit longer for it to finally 'click' with.

It's always weird with young players that you will hear people talk about these 'flashes' of excellence from them, and you just wait for it to click. Looks like it is finally happening for Courtney.

PJ will be fine in time as well and be our other safety. Kid is playing through stuff and not saying a word, but he's struggling. He needs the time off to rest and heal up. Dude is a warrior though.
