what's with all the uniform changes?

I'm watching ESPN Gameday right now. They're at TCU.

They showed the new uniform TCU will be wearing today. A little bit later they showed the new uniform VA Tech will be wearing today. Neither one looks like a college football uniform, looks like something from arena football or some crazy thing.

Doesn't anyone believe in tradition anymore? Why the need for alternate unis?

10 Teams wearing "futuristic" uniforms, not all this week though. Most these programs I can see, but Ohio St is going to a white helmet, as is Oklahoma. Haven't seen Texas's yet, but I can't see why you'd mess with such great tradition. FSU will have a black helmet for those that are into that kind of thing.

I think there's stitching on the shoulders, definitely not the big change of some schools. I actually like OU's, from that far away pic at least.

And they have matching gloves...these are actually kind of cool IMO. Maybe if our receivers had gloves this cool they could catch the ball :D

These uniforms are supposed to be the lightest ones ever created. Not sure how much taking 50 ounces (if that) out of a uniform will improve your team speed.....I do think a few look pretty good.
