when NU has the ball..

i don't think we'll be able to just line up and pound the ball against this va tech defense. atleast on a constant basis..too much speed and athlethicism. so i think the key is we have to be a little creative in our play calling. this means miss direction plays such as reverse or the threat of it ( like what Wake Forest likes to do by bringing a wideout in motion right before the snaps) to slow dow the defense down. every now and then throw in a screen pass or two. another thing we have to do is throw down field some to keep the linebackers and safefties from creeping up to the line of scrimmage..feel free to throw in any comments

I haven't seen them play this season so I don't know how aggressive they are. If they are a really aggressive defense we need to use their speed against them and catch them over pursuing. Some misdirections would be nice, but that's not going to continue to work the entire game. We are probably going to have to rely on some short passes and won't have an opportunity to throw the long ball all that much. I don't know if Lucky's style of running is going to be key or if Castille or Helu's style of running is going to be key. I think Lucky being on with his out of the back field catching is definately going to be huge to our success.

as far as running, you have to be decisive against this fast defense. that means hitting the holes hard and start heading downfield.it'll be hard to go sideline to sideline on them . to me, Helu would be a good choice. i don't know about Lucky... sometimes he seems alittle hesitant when hitting the holes...good in space and a great receiver out of the backfield though.

Helu has the right idea. Look at what Oregon State did with USC's speed, they ran right at it, when they went sideline to sideline SC's speed usually won out. Don't give those speedy LBs a running start, run right at em. MHO at least.

IIRC, NC had some success running straight at it last week.

Some misdirection and screen-type passes, certainly, but I'd rather we just give it to Helu and send him in behind Slauson and Murtha most of the time, even if it doesn't work very often. We CANNOT be one-dimensional.

When nu has the ball, im gonna cheer. And my girls are gonna scream. Its probally my wife isnt home becaue she would have a migrane after today.

Gonna see lots of screens tonight as a direct compliment to the run game. A lot of draws and misdirection too. But a LOT of screens and short passes.
