Seems like lots of disclaimers and technicalities and reaching for extra context overly sensitive.
ISU Basketball since 2015 - 122-111
NU Basketball since 2015 - 83-110
ISU Football since 2015 - 38-37
NU Football since 2015 - 31-39
They've had 4 bowl games, 3 conference tournament championships, 4 March Madness appearances (3 wins). The quote that started this conversation has nothing to do with what will or might happen in the future, only has to do with right now.
Not sure why Matt Campbell will leave next season though, he already got offered almost triple his salary by the NFL and said no.
Pollard is a joke. One lucky hire doesnt define ones tenure.
ISU football is 80-115 under him, hardly a great resume in college football. THis douche is puffing out his chest about this? That is an average of 5 wins and 7 losses EVERY YEAR
Nebraska during the same time span was 119-83 an average of 7-5. NU had ALMOST 50% MORE WINS 119 vs 80.
Nebraska generates over $40,000,000 more PROFIT in football than ISU. Over 10 years that is FOUR HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS. That means lots more money for facilities and player pay. Donors, fans and sponsors can EASILY funnel- divert money into players pockets. College football players- do you really think some poor kid in the Quad Cities, Florida or Omaha is going to pass up making $50-100K per year, new car, cool apartment and instead take $10K a year for the privledge of playing at Iowa State? 18-22 year old kids? Think again.
With NIL- the ability to pay players, Nebraska will easily be able to pay most Iowa State players 5x- 10x more than they are making there.
Coach Campbell is a "culture" guy. His Union College approach doesn't lend itself to professional football. He will pack his bags and go to a COLLEGE place that will pay him and his family 3x what he is making at ISU to do the very same thing at his next stop. Please tell me where an absolute stud coach has stayed long term at a scrub place and consistently turned down offers of 3x his current salary- especially when he doesnt have the facilities and NIL dollars to compete with the big guys. Allen and Purdy will be long gone after next year and expect a large exodus to follow Campbell to wherever he lands. Campbell will be LONG GONE after this season- striking while the iron is hot. Look for him to land back in his home state of Ohio at Ohio State, Michigan or where he played ball at Pitt. Even big boys like Texas or even USC may come calling, ISU doesnt stand a chance in that field.
Iowa State got a once in a generation coach-- who like most great coaches, they dont stay in the MAC with the team that cant sustain long term success- they move onto the big leagues. ESPECIALLY in the pay to play world of big time college football.
