Who Will Replace Gomes???

Next year I assume that Hagg will move from nickel to safety and Gomes will move from dime back to the nickel back...or from 2nd nickel back to first whichever one you prefer..so who will take over Gomes' spot next year?? Blue? Green? Middleton? Thorell? Thoughts...

:dunno

why the assumption that Hagg moves?

I really hope Hagg moves and I think he will in certain cases. He doesn't play the ball well when he is man to man in the corner position and I think he would excel being able to have his eyes in the backfield and just play the qb. He's super athletic and would bring a lot to the safety position next to either smith or thenarse next year. I do think that Green would be a good option to have in the dime or nickel bc he's a bit bigger than Middelton and I think he would be kind of an interchangable player when it comes to run support much like Hagg has been this year. I see Middleton as kind of in that Prince or Dennard mold where he is much more of a shut down corner on the outside.

IF Hagg does move, i would expect Thorell, since he has been backup for the nickel spot.

I have my doubts Hagg will move. I think the coaches like Hagg playing nickle because it requires a guy to play in the backfield a lot, and Hagg has showed that to be one of his biggest strengths.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Gomes play ahead of Dennard next fall. He has showed consistent playmaking ability, and that's exactly what you want in a starter. So in that case I guess it would be West playing dime......

Hard to tell exactly where guys will fit, but what I do know is NU's D backfield is looking stout as hell no matter what direction the coaches decide to go with it. And not since the days of Groce and the Brown bros. have I felt comfortable saying anything like that.

How can you say that Hagg will start ahead of Dennard? Yes Hagg is a playmaker, but more from a hybrid LB sort of way. How many times did you see the ball get lobbed up to the guy Hagg was covering man to man only to have Hagg get beaten or interfere with his guy? Dennard is one of if not the best man to man cover corner we have on the entire team and he will not get beaten out for one of the corner spots by anyone especially Hagg.

No one said Hagg would start over Dennard. He said Gomes over Dennard, but I don't think that will happen. Coaches think Dennard is the best CB on the football team, from what I've heard.

No one is taking Dennard or Princes' place....those guys are the BIZ.

Gomes is very versatile and a straight play-makin baller. He'll be on the field plenty. With PJ and Thenarse and Blue coming on strong, i think we are STACKED at DB...which is by far the toughest position to develop outside of QB.

Am I the only one who freaked out at the title of this thread? Had been out of touch all day and was like, ''now what happened?''

Between Blue, West, Green, and Middleton we should do fine in replacing Gomes at dime. My guess would be Blue.

I did the same thing... No one is taking Gomes spot unless the coaches ask him to be the No. 1 in a different spot. :dunno
