Who's Leaving? 2024/25 version

The Shirley stuff I knew. And yikes, that was all on her. Maybe that’s just the way the family rolls.

It is. I mentioned in that thread I saw comments on YT from a Fidone and based on what they were saying I felt 80% sure it really was a family member. Now with it being this many times I’m sure it was. They were whining that Fidone was open all the time and Raiola couldn’t find him.

Dude needs to grow up or get his family to shut up. It makes him look like a child who can’t handle his own problems and life.

I quit coaching my kids because I got tired of just 1-2 parents.  My kid was ok, not great.  One of the things I always heard is I’d make calls that favored my kid.  It simply wasn’t true.  It was lazy.  In fact, I felt like he was the only player on the team I could tear to shreds when he performed bad.  He got lit up way more than anyone else did.

It was great to be done.
My dad left (got fired from a program he built)  and took a job at a HS next to my hometown.  They had the longest losing streak in the state at the time.  He told me from the jump I was going to get the a$$ chewings for the rest of the team.  They hadnt won and definitely didnt care.  We didn't start winning until my junior year.  By that time I was all conference and junior all-state.  But parents were still sreaming how their kid was supposed to be playing instead of me even while having double those honors my senior year.  My best friend was actually my backup on defense and he admits he had no business playing ahead of me let alone the kids parents who were screaming from the stands.  My friends also admit they wouldn't have wanted to be in my shoes with my dad as a coach

Yeah but I'll find it in me to blame a parent for not being able to put a coherent paragraph together.
Ha!  So true!

And, 99 times out of 100 the parent is wrong but again, I get it.  I know they think they are doing the right thing.  Even if they are not.

That's how it has to be, but I can't tell you how many times I've watched tape, and thought that kid must be a coaches son only to find out I was correct.  The most successful coach in the history of Orlando was Zach Darlington's dad & even he was embarrassing with his own kids on the roster when they played skilled positions.

My younger brother was 4yrs behind me and guys who were around in between us said my dad must have mellowed out because he didn't yell at him like he yelled at you.  Probably because he was the youngest and there were a few winning seasons under his belt there

The worst of this is in little kids sports.  I remember a team of grade school basketball. 2-3 dads coached the team.  Their only goal was to play THEIR kids.  There were a number of kids on that team that would just sit on the bench.  They totally lost the fun of playing and never played again.  A few of those grew up to be actually pretty decent athletes in other sports.  But, they never played BB again.

This is the time when you should be fostering love of the game and teaching every kid how to play and get better.  You never know which kid is going to develop into an athlete in HS.  I have a friend who tried talking to the coaches and was basically told to go pound sand.

I gave him a call.  Told him he was too rough on you, and to bring it down a peg or two.  He said "Ope, ok. Thanks for calling".

What surprised me was that he had a Canadian accent.  Then we drove to Chicago for a Bears game.  He did say you were pretty damn good ball player.  With his Canadian accent.

I tell people all the time, if you're going to play AAU B-ball or baseball and the coaches kid isn't one of the top 3 players, run.

Must have been after one of the summers we spent at my grandparents' cabin in northern Minnesota

Some parents are dellusional.  I remember some wanting to be volunteer coaches and my dad was like thanks but no thanks.  The stereotypical dads trying to live through their sons.  I wasn't even allowed to play football until I got to HS.
