Why does Banker want a Juco DB?

Injuries included, we still have quite a few DBs on the roster who have quality playing time experience. L.Alexander with starting experience, Josh Kalu with starting experience, Cockrell with starting experience, K. Williams with quality playing time. Assuming the injuries to Davie, Jackson, and Gerry are severe, players like Trai Mosley and A. Williams have been promising in camp. I still haven't mentioned J. Rose or the two highly touted true freshmen A. Anderson and E. Lee.

So unless the staff is expecting departures other than Boaz Joseph, I'm not sure about the need for a Juco DB.

I don't think we're particularly deep at Safety. Kind of a question mark after Gerry, Alexander, and Williams.

Davie and Jackson are two guys that would start or be on the 2-deep if healthy. Wouldn't hurt to assume Jackson is never going to be healthy enough to make a difference.

I also don't get it. We don't just have overwhelming depth, we also have great talent. We have little to no depth at lb and de, and those should be the focus.

My only guess is the db must be special and not ready to play this year (ie just part of recruiting for next year).

I'm fine with looking but I don't think we need anyone. Gerry is a stud. Alexander started as a freshman. It's going to take a lot to find anyone better, especially coming in cold this fall. We already have one JUCO Safety on the roster and I'm not sure he's any better than our fourth-best at the position. Plus we have at least three other guys on the team who could easily play safety as well.

If having three guys at the position with starting experience and a fourth who played in all 13 games last year as a true freshman isn't having depth at the position, there is no such thing.

Maybe Banker isn't looking for a Juco "defensive back", maybe he is looking for a Juco "douchebag"? That could make sense.
