Why not try to draw offsides on last 4th and 1

Weren't we out of time outs? So, what if we tried and it failed? We'd have gotten a penalty. With Beamer Ball, they're just that much closer to their goal if they block the punt or we have a botched snap. I'm still in the camp that we should have tried a field goal then and when it was 4th and goal. Chances are he'd have made at least 1 of the 2.

Punting from the 42 is not much different than punting from the 37.

Considering the circumstances, it does. Instead of being 4th and 1, it would have been 4th and 6. On 4th and 1, it's conceivable we might fake the punt thus keeping VT's punt blockers at bay. With it being 4th and 6, there's a lot less chance for a fake and they could have pinned their ears back and came. If the block is punted or the snap is errant, they get the ball on their side of the field.

Hate to beat a dead horse, but I just signed up to post and was wondering something about the VA Tech game that I have not seen discussed.

When we had it 4th and 1 toward end of game, why not line up to go for it and try to draw the offsides. I know it doesn't work very often, but a 5 yard penalty woud have not hurt our punting.
Orrrr....we try the hard count and one of our guys get penalized for a false start.

Whats a false start hurt? Put us back 5 more yards so we can punt it still? It wasn't going to change that... so delay of game or false start, wouldnt have hurt.

Yeah that's true. I hadn't thought of it that way.

I was thinking the same thing durring the game. I was also thinking... why do we burn all of our timeouts on the crap we do and not review a TD play. Time management and game managment have to get better. Bo threw his headset before the game was even over. And correct me if im wrong but wasn't there 18 sec left and we had the illegal proceedure pentaly and then we had 12 sec left. Doesn't that penalty mean the play didn't take place? The time wasn't put back on and nobody talked about it.. maybe i'm wrong on that one.

Because Marcel Jones would have false started....Not that it would have hurt, but he'd screw up first.....not that it matters now anyway....
