i've played soccer all my life but i'll never back up a player who does that...and I don't do it myself.
I wouldn't say that makes soccer a girly-man game though. It's not an easy sport. There's just a select few who constantly prefer to dive than rely on their own skill.
Of course I'll never understand games like basketball where it's perfectly accepted that with the last two minutes everyone is going to foul anyone with the ball.
it's because they decide to come to a country where a) soccer isn't that popular and B) the teams aren't nearly as good as they are in other countries. In a team sport good players can actually suffer when they are surrounded by mediocre players.I find it interesting that the world's two biggest soccer stars Pele first and then David Beckham created only a fleeting moment of interest when they came to play in this country. Pele retired and went home, Beckham basically caused a stir because of the huge contract he reportedly had and because he had a cute little wife. When the lights dimmed he schlepped back to Europe and, thank God, took his over rated wife with him.
