Why was Satterfield hired and given 1.4 million to be Nebraska's Offensive Coordinator??

The better question is what keeps DR here next year?  He already has receivers who won't fight for the ball.  He has an OL that at times leaks like a sieve.  Does DR and his family believe in Satterfield?  That's probably the most important question.

Nebraska has to offer market rate salary to be attractive and competitive. It hurt them badly when they hired Riley. Also, agents know how much Nebraska takes in each year and we can't lowball based on that knowledge.

i think his father and uncle keeps him here next year, regardless if Satterfield is still coaching the offense next year.  If the reports and stories about him are to be believed, family seems to be very important to him and I think the family realizes that if Dylan were to leave then his uncle would be shown the door.  While I don't think Satterfield has done a good job in this 1.5 years at Nebraska I would argue that uncle Donny has performed at an equally low level in his 2.5 years at Nebraska.  Without Dylan on the roster his uncle won't be on the coaching staff.

First, I want to go on the record as not liking the Satt hire.  Have friends and fam that are Carolina fans.  They were over joyed.  A quick look at his accomplishments showed him to be a lower tier OC. His time at Baylor as TE's coach in 2019 showed that his TE's had a whopping 7 catches between them....7....No TD's and an incredible 38 yards.  Wait fir it 4.5 yards per play.....And we wonder why our TE's are really not involved. Satt NEVER should have been hired.  Doogie Howser never should have been fired.  Foley never get a year 2.

To the bolded, my concern is this.  IIRC, we have the "oldest" OL in the country or one of the top.  Fans (me included) have constantly bagged on them save Scott IMHO.  For years.  Not for a season, but for years.  How bad must our younger guys (or development) be to not have them surpassed the vets....How have we not recruited guys that would push for or get more playing time.  Under Frost, "if we had an OL".  Under Rhule "if we had an OL".....If it is Donny's fault, I'd rather lose Dylan, get a legit OL coach and win.  Dylan will never reach his potential (and by proxy) this team without a solid OL.

Rhule has some serious soul searching to do.  I love TO as a coach, but the GOAT has to be Saban.  That dude coached like Ghengis Khan.  Get it done or get gone.  Didn't hire buds, hired dudes.

So is keeping a young and immobile 5* on roster worth it? Brings a lot of baggage.

Matt Rhule knows what he wants in an OC. He wanted Sat, but it has been reported in multiple places that Sat wasn't his first choice- Peetz was.

Keep your eyes on the Rams this year and whether they continue to struggle. There will be fall-out from that and it won't be the HC who has won a SB there. Peetz gets cut loose, NU & MR should look at him hard.

The other COA would be whether the QB coach should have a bigger role in the offensive play selection, which would mean a significant demotion (and likely moving on) for Sat.

Personally, I think that they jury is still out on Sat- he didn't coach the defensive debacle @ Indiana. He is dealing with a Frosh QB albeit uber talented, the offensive line isn't great, and WR who appear to struggle in getting separation. The RB choices leave me absolutely baffled- sure wish that "wiggle" or tackle avoidance was something that they could teach Dowdell- he certainly doesn't have the speed to house some of the runs when he makes it to the 2nd level.

GO BIG RED!!!!

Maybe the Rams have another superfluous offensive guru stashed on their staff who would be interested in OCing...

But more seriously and to the bolded, I think the WRs are really dragging down this offense. I don't know how much is Banks/Neyor just not matching up well with Big Ten corners, but with perimeter blocking and route running being the two main complaints I've seen by people who know more ball than I do, that falls on McGuire more than Satterfield. Wouldn't be sad to see him go, but I think a legitimate WR coach could make a big difference.

Too many of our coaches have hired buds.  We need guys who are promotable to HC either here or elsewhere. This isn't some fun summer camp - yet this buddy system points that direction and so do the results.

Peetz isn’t even with the Rams anymore. He’s the passing game coordinator for the Seahawks.

We can do better than him imo.

Don’t believe the jury is still out. 8 stops as OC his offenses averaged 87.

At Baylor as TE coach t catches, no TD’s, less than 40 yards and avg 4.3/catch. Or almost dead last in 2024.

Just now wrapping his head around the fact you’ve got to run to win in the B1G.

Thinks 4-6 yards per play is good. Dead last or 57th.  IIRC we sit at 87th…

Shouldn’t have been hired. Needs to be fired.
