Wisconsin Week Pressers

That's several times now this season when someone in the secondary, doesn't play the defense called.  First time I heard it was a game or two ago, and it was a "missed signal"

I realize that there probably isn't anyone better to come in and take the offending players spot, but damn.  At what point can we start blaming some of the players for just doing stupid stuff?  They are all paid money now to play big time college football.  How bout you do it.

That's been the trend of Rhule's press conferences recently - a little less hiding behind the "we have to coach it better" and more "they need to do their jobs." It's a key stretch in how Rhule will be remembered - this is either the needed push for the players to take ownership of their play on the field, or the first big sign of the wheels falling off as he starts blaming players. Time will tell which it is.

I got no problem if he calls out who is to blame. But if we have continuous repetitive mistakes from the same people and they continue to start that bothers me. Get someone else ready and put them in. If we can’t get backups ready that’s coaches fault

Problem is it's not the same one or two guys. Seems like everyone back there has a lapse each game, and teams punish it in a way we haven't been to when their defense mess up.

  • Tommi Hill wasn't playing deep enough on the first big play. Also the dude that caught it is 6'6, so sometimes those things happen
  • Can't tell who the safety over top their second TD should have been (also should've been an INT or at least PBU for Hartzog), but I think  it was Buford. And it looks like he tried to jump a route across the entire field. Could've been Gifford, but if so he was misaligned cause there's no way he could've made it over there.
  • It was Hartzog on the 48-yarder (maybe Singleton should be deeper too), Gifford is frantically calling out the switch and Hartzog pretty much goes "huh?"

I assume they don't mess these things up often in practice, so it's a little difficult to just yank a guy after one mental mistake in a game.

I’m actually more disturbed by how badly we get fooled near the goal line. Unless it’s 3rd and 1 and we guess right… anything remotely play action or involving a run fake is obscenely open and successful.
