What can you say about the game of football? One week it can make you feel like you just climbed Mt. Everest. The next week it feels like Christmas morning, but you wake up to find out that Santa took off with your wife and dog. You really loved that dog, too. As fans, we love and hate this game called football. Football has this inexplicable ability to make us laugh, cry, and yell random curse words as if we have all suddenly developed tourette's syndrome. There are ups, downs, twists, and turns in the emotional roller coaster called the football season. It is what keeps us coming back for more.
In the past few years, we have had to endure our share of heartache. There were so many heartaches that a split had developed in the fanbase. It is something that is still lingering to this day. There are some new emotions that can be felt in the hearts of Husker fans, though. Where once there was only pessimism and despair, there is now a sense of optimism and hope. The fan culture has made huge strides in gaining their confidence back. As Pelini would say, "we still have a long ways to go, however." It is an encouraging thing to witness. When times are as hard as they are right now in the world. When there is so much hatred, bitterness, and anger. It is nice to see the Husker fanbase back on to the path of pride in our program, comraderie, and a family atmosphere.
So last week, Santa came into your house and took your dog instead of leaving presents. Let's just hope this week after the game you feel like you just climbed Mt. Everest. Afterall, it is nice to feel like there is always hope. So here is to all the Husker fans out there. You have taken a lot of lumps, but have never given up your support. That is something to be proud of and that is why there is no place like Nebraska.
