2006 Texas - Taylor to Nunn on 3rd Down to seal the deal.
A run play to the outside with Jackson probably gets us a first down or he at least hangs on to the ball so we can punt.
You forget how much Texas stacked the box on damm near every play, daring us to pass in that wind. I still remember Derek Lokey (until he got hurt) absolutely manhandling our line. It seemed like he was in the backfield on every play.
Play worked to perfection, but Cally cannot hold onto the ball for Nunn as well.
I also don't fault the fake punt against Auburn. Play was called perfectly and although Dane Todd did get rushed on the pitch, he got it off to and Shanle just flat dropped it. If Shanle tucks that away like he should, he is easily picking up big yardage.
Both of those plays were great timing, just absolutely horrific execution on the part of the players.
That Auburn game in general makes me laugh because all Auburn did that entire game was sit back in a zone and dare our WRs to run past their speedy defense. Even if they did, they knew Taylor didn't have the arm to get it to them. That Oklahoma game completely gave Auburn a blueprint on how to defend against Taylor and his noodle arm. I'm sure we all remember the under throws in that game.
Love Zac Taylor and everything he did, but his biggest shortcoming as a QB is that he had absolutely no arm strength.
As far as horrid playcalling, I have two off the top of my head from this past year. The obvious is the fake FG against Colorado. The other is the choice to take the XP against TTech. Offense was absolutely rolling, we are on the road and have Tech completely on the ropes. Instead of going in to rip their heart out, we gave their offense a chance to save their defense.
What made it so silly is that we had not stopped the Tech offense all day, save 2 drives and they had put all their points on the board in less than 4 minutes each drive. But yet Pelini stopped our offense which had scored 4 straight times on Tech's defense. Put it on Ganz to rollout and make that play with his arm or feet. Do not give Tech a chance to catch its breath while we were curb stomping on their head.
