Wow, someone doesn't like Christian Peter

So how long, exactly, do you plan on wallowing in the mire of those issues? And why do you focus on Peter and Phillips, when we were producing some really fine guys at the same time, both personally and academically?

I focused on Peter because this was a thread about a Wikipdeia page for Christian Peter not the choir boys that played for TO. I didn’t bring up Larry Phillips I think you did. Also how is bringing up their wrong doings wallowing in the mire?

There are plenty of hypocrisies when it comes to Husker “fans” and I will point them out every time I see one. Some of the worst people to watch Husker games with are Husker “fans”. Once again this thread wasn’t about the good kids, it was about Christian Peter. If you ask me Larry Phillips, Terrell Farley, Shevin Wiggins etc. have more in common with Peter then the good kids so that is why I was focusing on the negatives (once again thread about Christian Peter not the good kids)

Well, you just go right ahead and knock yourself out talking about all those dozen or two dozen bad kids we've had over the past couple of decades. I'm impressed with your knowledge of the subject matter. Thanks for being such a great fan of the team that you refuse to let other fans go a moment without remembering that we've had some pretty scummy guys wearing our jersey over the years.

You could start one, but instead you choose to post here, and rather than make oblique references to the very real issues we all know about, you made a point in describing them. In detail. How was I rubbing it in everyone’s noses? By saying it is funny how people chastised Miami and FSU for fielding “thugs” yet celebrated every Larry Phillips TD against Florida or jumped for joy and High Fived every time Christian Peter made a play?

How? This ring a bell? "As far as Florida and Penn State go, did any of their players drag a girl down 3 flights of stairs by her hair? Did any of their players rap a girl twice on back to back days, then turn around and fondle another girl at a bar? Were two of their players “involved” in a drive-by at a gas station? Was one of their starting LB’s arrested twice in a year span for driving while intoxicated and fleeing from the police?" Not content with simply referring to these guys, you felt the need to describe each situation, in detail, despite the fact that they all happened over a dozen years ago. Why? Are you laboring under some delusion that people don't know about these crimes? Who doesn't know this stuff?

But what really gets me is your statement a "rap" was committed by Christian Peter. I'm willing to believe this girl, but fair is fair - he was never convicted. The only account we have of those incidents was from the girl, and her first recounting of the situation was two years after it happened. Allegedly happened, technically. Again, I'm willing to believe here - Christian wasn't a sympathetic character - but someone who so desperately insists on realism should have the integrity to describe it in terms of "allegations," not "facts."

The fact that you chose to portray it the way you did speaks volumes about where you're coming from. Where is your integrity?

So this year when we lose a game are you only going to come on here and talk about all the good plays that were made instead of the bad ones? When talking about Billy C we should only talk about the good things he did and not the bad things? When discussing Larry Phillips we should talk about the Michigan State game and not what happened when he got back into town? I’m just checking so I know next time these things come up.

When issues come up they should be discussed, not sugar-coated, but discussed rationally and realistically. Focusing solely on one side, as you're doing, paints an unrealistic picture.

I've been more than happy to discuss the good things Callahan did here. I've attended Football 101 with my wife, a cancer survivor, and I'm grateful that Callahan held such fundraisers.

Like I said whether you want to admit it or not there were questionable/shady things that went down while TO was coach and when discussing TO’s legacy those things will and should be brought up. As should all the good things he did.
And once again this was a thread about Christian Peter who unlike most of his teammates was far from a model player and probably shouldn’t have been allowed to complete 5 years of college for free.

Also instead of trying to justify what happened with the bad apples here by bringing up Penn State the last couple years shouldn’t you focus on bringing up the countless solid kids that Joe Pa has coached through out the years? :dunno

Just curious, but at what point in this thread have you balanced your comments with the "good things?"

I've often wondered how he was able to stay on the team..Especially after seeing the thing on 60 minutes about him raping or groping a former Miss Nebraska.

Laurence Phillips seemed to get more National publicity with his dragging his ex down a flight of stairs, but Christian was attacking strangers (Which in some ways is worse..the whole general public would seem to be in danger).

I could sorta understand Tom Orsborn trying to keep LP on the team as it was his only tie to the university and therefore..his ticket out of where he came from..But Peter? His parents were still a part of his life and well enough off that they could get him through school.

I was also sorta torn the way Jason Peter almost flaunted his brotherly love by assuming CP's number (55) as his own durring his last year..

I mean..I'd like to believe I'd do anything for my brother..but if I thought he was a bad seed..I wonder if I'd try more to get him help or at least beat the crap out of him...and not "enable" him.

It appears to me that maybe the enitre Peter family was bad apples. Jason was ever bit as bad as Christian. The difference was that Jason never had charges filed against him. He was however ever bit as bad as Christian. They had a brother with a full ride scholarship to play for Notre Dame. He dove into a swimming pool that just happened to have no water in it and broke his neck ending any thoughts of playing D1 football. Maybe bad apples is harsh. It appears as though they all had horrible drinking problems. I'll bet with every time they did something "bad" they were drunk or had been drinking. We used to call them cavemen when I was in college because they would almost literally walk up to women and grab them by the hair and drag them to their cave. Both Christian and Jason could have/should have had a lot more arrests than what the article showed.

We were thug U back then. I believe I read an article that stated either 7 or 9 of the starters in the 95' NC game for NU had felony arrests on their record.

WOW! Junior4949 you must be related to the Peter Bro's somehow with all the information and insight you have on them. I know Jason was the one with the drug problem but are you sure you're not smoking crack right now? The younger brother dove into a pool without water! Where in Gods name did you come up with that one? Now I know why i don't do the message board thing. Like another poster said "one apple spoils the bunch"(referring to Husker football players), same thing goes for message boards and the posters! No water in the pool! Really, thank you for that, i'll be laughing at the stupididy of that for months. Maybe people should take a step back and stop questioning why T.O. let Christian play and start realizing maybe T.O. knew something we didn't. Maybe he knew something about the situation and the girl that was never revealed throughout the process, maybe he knew there were charachter issues with the girl, maybe he knew the truth. I'm not excusing some of the things C.P. did off the field but lets also remember that during the 90's there were quite a few people that were jealous of the success the team was having. I went to school at UNL during that time and I knew guys and girls that were so bitter cause they thought football players got the benefit of the doubt and they didn't. C.P. has admitted he had a problem with alcohol and has done everything and anything that was asked of him so that he could both return to play for the Huskers as well as getting a chance to play in the NFL. I believe he has a wife and kids and is doing great. I know people at the athletic dept. and they all say C.P. was and still is one of the most beloved Huskers. Heck, Dennis LeBlanc(Academic Guy) named his son after Christian. I know people never look at the other side but do you think a girl who was REALLY raped by a football player(reportedly twice), would shack up with one of his old teammates and buddies(they played the same position) for the last 4 years and go out of her way to make sure nobody found out? How about a fact about her when she was in school, she loved football players and cho-cho trains. And who settles for a small amount of money instead of seeing their offender go to jail, especially when that person isn't desperate for money? We are all guilty of believing what we read in the media but maybe sometimes they don't always have it right. And I thought Jason switching jersey numbers was a great thing. Sounds like to me that maybe your girlfriend had a crush on him and you couldn't stand it, just guessing though.

Lots of people. I work in a branch of the legal world, and this happens all the time. It is indicative of nothing.

Yeah shut this baby down. It's only going to get uglier. I have to wonder though...you guys think steroids might have caused a lot of problems for these schools in the 90's? I mean you have to think that a lot of college players were taking things around these times. So that could be why there was more violent situations.

Also I look at the whole of the program and like someone else said...we have a lot of good people come out of our university. It was spoiled in some people's eyes by a few bad people. It is funny how people call Nebraska fans hypocrites when those people are hypocrites themselves. I say get over it and if you can't then you can stick it where the sun doesn't shine.

So, I did a little research. Damian didn't jump into an empty pool. He did something oh so much smarter that there's no way alcohol could have been involved. Lots of people. I work in a branch of the legal world, and this happens all the time. It is indicative of nothing.

Especially in an old case like this where the evidence required for a criminal conviction is long gone.

There was a time in there that the offseason was almost as interesting as the season itself. It almost seemed like each and every week that someone from the football team was getting arrested for something in the summer. Then we have a WR getting shot in the a$$ during some gangbanging crossfire. I still remember after the 95' NC season the following summer when Farley was caught for his second DUI after running through the fields from police over on east camput on some of the Universities field plots. He smashed his car into another car, then got out and tried to outrun the police on foot. It was a soap opera for a while.

I was attending the University during all of this. The players back then got away with A LOT! It made ya wonder who actually was running the University. The staff or the players.

In somewhat of a defense to the football players, we ALL got away with a lot then. I was there from 93-96. You had to be doing something completely stupid to get in trouble much less arrested. The cops would bust the same party like 3 or 4 times before giving out MIP's. If they caught you drinking and driving, they'd take you home and tell you not to move your car until 8 the next morning.
