aurorasentinel.com: Grandview weathered an early challenge from Smoky Hill Thursday night, but the Wolves got three defensive touchdowns and one on special teams in a 55-6 Centennial League football victory.

Linebackers Chris Martin and Eddie Yarbrough each recovered fumbles in the end zone for touchdowns, Nick Yeros returned an interception 29 yards and for a score and Heath Davis found the end zone on the end of a 38-yard punt return as the Wolves rolled at Legacy Stadium....

The win may have proved very costly for Grandview, however, as Davis suffered a potentially torn knee ligament. The senior wide receiver scored on a 38-yard punt return and 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, but went down after a six-yard carry late in the quarter. He left the stadium with his leg wrapped and using crutches.

update: The Grandview football team suffered a big blow Sept. 17, as senior wide receiver Heath Davis tore his left anterior cruciate ligament in the Wolves’ 55-6 Centennial League win over Smoky Hill at Legacy Stadium.

The 6-foot, 180-pounder was Grandview’s lone returning full-time offensive starter coming into the season and was expected to be the defending Centennial League champion’s primary weapon.

Davis had a 38-yard punt return for a touchdown and a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter as Grandview pulled away from Smoky Hill, but he went down after a six-yard rush late in the quarter. He was helped off the field and left the stadium after the game with his left leg wrapped and using crutches.

Davis said his ACL was torn completely and he had surgery on it on Sept. 21, which he said went “perfectly.” He expects to put in extensive rehabilitation work to get ready for the spring baseball season. He plays center field for Grandview.

CU is hosting Grandview wide receiver Heath Davis on an official visit this weekend, but it is unclear whether he is being recruited as a scholarship athlete or an invited walk-on.
