You can't blame it on the Defense

Also on the 66 yrd touchdown we had double coverage on the TE going up the middle of the field and we left grixby in single coverage on the outside. On the 36 yrd pass from the end zone we were on a delayed blitz witch still gave him time to throw. We also blitzed on Shanle's int. But my complaints are about the whole year not just last night

Bad secondary and turnovers are the reason's we lost the game..............if Zac doesn't throw 3 picks the game is ours IMO..............

I hate to keep beeting this drum but the whole defense played great with the exception of one certain corner.
Here is the bottom line. Grixby may not be the best corner around but if he is not the best on our team, then why is he always covering the other team’s best receiver. Is it his fault? Should he take himself out of the game? I may not be an expert, but aren’t player personnel decisions made by the coaching staff?

The next time I see Grixby all by himself on a 6’5” receiver, I’m gonna scream! Again!!! (ask my kids, I’ve been screaming at the T.V. all season). I will also be screaming just as loud the next time I see Stewart Bradley covering a wide-out and getting there just after the pass. Look, I don’t blame the coaches or players if the other team catches you in a mismatch once in a while, but gimme a break! How many times do we have to watch our middle linebacker chasing a wide receiver after he gets first down yardage? How many times are we going to see the D-backs give a ten yard cushion on 3rd and 5? How many times are we going to refuse to put in nickel coverage on third and long? Those horrible schemes are the Defensive coordinators fault. If he has the wrong personnel in all of the time, then he obviously doesn’t know how to evaluate talent or design an effective defense. I don’t care what he or any of the other coaches say, it is better to have an inexperienced d-back cover a receiver than to try to do it with a veteran linebacker. There is a reason Stewart Bradley and Corey McKeon don’t play corner. BECAUSE THEY ARE LINEBACKERS!!!!!

If Elmassian and Busch can’t get the young DB’s ready, then maybe we need someone who can. And if Cosgrove isn’t putting pressure on them to do their job, maybe we need better leadership on the defensive side of the ball. And Callahan better not stick it out and be too loyal to his buddy “Cos.” He may be willing to go down with his friend, but we fans are not. Callahan better realize that hiring his friend was a bad decision, and cut his loses now. If not, people are going to start calling for his head too.

I just think they tend to throw to Courtney's side no matter who he is covering!!! I understand what you saying though. It's very frustrating to see a converted wide receiver pass on us like he did.............OU wasn't a passing team, they were a running team and we made them look great because of the weak secondary. Only problem is we don't have too many options at DB with some guys hurt. I have a hard time with Thenarse not being in there..........

sure the defense against the run was good but like some of you said we cant have LB's trying to cover a wr it's just not going to happen. but i do blame PART of the secondary, and coaching for not getting the job done. i dont see how hard is it for the coaches not to recongnize what ou was doing with passsing game. they were rolling out to the left then rolling out to the right that cant be that hard to catch on to, and needless to say that about 90% of their passing yards went against grixby.
You are correct!

Well we blitzed on their long touchdown pass as well as their 36 yard gain from the one/half yard line.
Where was Shanle on that tD throw? They had been throwing to Kelly all day. Grix was getting toasted all day. Maybe a little help?

Ill just come out and say it. THENARSE SHOULD BE PLAYING MUCH MUCH MORE! I agree that the coaches should be able to make that decision. Grix got abused like a dude in prison with a soap dropping habit. Ok Im officially done bagging on Grix this season.

I am of the same opionion. I also got frustrated by the amount of time Zach held the ball. I never could figure out it OU's secondary was just that good or Zach was frustrated and could not see the open receivers. Everytime he dropped back for a pass, it gave me a heart attack.

Yeah it was crazy how long he was holding on to the ball sometimes!!! You could tell he knew it also, because he started getting real ansey after a few seconds and I was like "just throw it away!!!!"

I think all the blame is on coz, everybody is saying that we only gave up 14 points and how we great we were at stopping the run. Sure we stopped a few run plays but they never had to try to run the ball because we gave up 10 yards a pass. All year long we’ve made every quarterback we’ve faced look like All-Americans. We don’t put enough pressure on the passer with the blitz we don’t use any nickel packages. we’re constantly guarding WR with LB and playing players out of position. It’s not Grixby’s fault, he plays hard every play. If he isn’t good enough and there is no one on the team by this time in the season better then it’s all coaching.
When your Defense gives up only 14 points and gets you great field position all game, you should win.

The Offense didn't get the job done.

Totally agree. The defense did its job as well as it could with our limited secondary. The offense had great field position all night, but did not get it done. The part of the defense that I question is GRIXBY!!!!!!

Yeah, the O failed to come through as well as ZT. The D stuffed the run but was once again burnt on the pass. The D only gave up 14 points. The WCO needs to put up more than 7.

OU's secondary was that good - at least, better than the receivers. The receivers never seemed to consistently get good separtation from the OU defensive backs, which means Taylor had no where to go with the pass - hell, they were even covering the hot read most of the time.

I can't blame Zac at all - I'd rather he hold it and take the sack then force it and throw an interception. The way the OU secondary played, had Zac tried to force it we'd be sitting here today looking at a six interception game...
