Your 2024 Nebraska Cornhuskers

I love the talk coming from Satterfield on turnovers.

Hopefully the staff puts together the right mix of drills and scrimmage in camp though to simulate more live game experience to put our offense through the right kind of reps that actually translates to not turning it over on Saturdays.

I think the "you won't play if you turn the ball over" is honest if you add the word "repeatedly" to the end. And I do believe the number of times you can turn it over before getting the hook will be lower this year. They did eventually bench Sims and Grant last year, but after a long time and ended up needing to go back to them. But yeah, obviously some guys are going to have some leeway. QBs will turn the ball over, and it would be dumb to immediately and permanently switch to a worse player because of a turnover.

Against my better judgement

AG fumbled against MN

Was sat for Ervin against CO. Ervin fumbled against CO

NI no RB fumbles Both Ervin and Johnson went down with season ending injuries

Only AG, Emmett and Fleeks available for RB position

LT no RB fumbles

AG fumbled once against Michigan.

AG fumbled against at the end of the game Illinois - essentially benched for the rest of the season.

Emmett gets the start for the rest of the year.

Yeah, it's tricky. As much as no one likes turnovers, they're going to happen to some degree. You can get so conservative, especially in terms of the QB, that you're losing production because you're so afraid of the turnover that you're not taking calculated gambles.

I'm gonna give the coaches the benefit of the doubt that they know the difference between a RB being stood up and stripped on a late whistle and the guy carelessly swinging it in his arm. The guys that are doing as they're taught and making good decisions are probably not going to get the same quick hook as the guy's that aren't.

Grant was fumbling so bad in fall camp that Rhule called him out on it in a press conference.  But he was still the starter against Minnesota.  When we had everyone available.

Then he fumbled away the Minnesota game.

Do we talk about all the turnovers that HH was having and how it took a injury before he was finally benched?

He's homegrown,  so he gets a pass

Didn't help that the other options were Sims (who turned it over even more) and Purdy who was also injured. In hindsight feels like they could have moved to Purdy earlier even if his mobility wasn't all the way back. But if we're using hindsight Purdy also threw game-sealing INTs on the final play in each game. The QB turnover problem needed different players and different coaching, and Rhule has done both.

Actually Gabe started the game. And while he averaged almost eight yards a tote, he only had seven carries. No clue why Barthel put AG in with the camp fumbles like you mentioned, Mav. Didn't make any sense then and it doesn't now.
