Zac Taylor, Herian Sign Free-Agent Deals with Bucs

Both of them face an uphill battle. Taylor has a shot because of Gradkowski's inconsistency and the fact that Garcia is ancient. Plus, Simms is hardly a proven product.

Herian has a tougher go because the Bucs already have 5 tight ends on their roster, including newly-signed free agent Jerramy Stevens, who is pretty good despite his problems in Seattle.

Do you think that Callahan had anything to do with them getting invited to tryout for the Buc's. :thumbs

I think the fact that Gruden was here last year checking out our team and B.S. with Cally definately helped Taylor and Herian out. The sad thing about Herian was before the season ever started the NFL channel was talking last year that Herian was the 3rd best tightend in college football.

The Bucs signing Stevens really hurts Herian's chances.

True, but for a lot of free agents and late rounders, going through a training camp and pre-season is a chance to audition for teams that have a need at that position. So, while it probably won't work out in Tampa, there's always a chance he can impress enough to catch on with another team. I'd like to think he can - that injury was awful...
