Zack Darlington Leaves Program "To Pursue Other Life Goals"

I sort of wonder if there was some degree of pressure from the new staff to make this decision.  It opens up a valuable scholarship and we aren't in the luxurious position of being able to use them for (relatively) non productive members of the team.

Good example on and off the field.  Wish him the very best.

I guess that opens up a scholarship for recruits.  I wonder if we go for another WR to replace him?

Saw his Twitter post. He said he is joining the Army.  If he gets his degree, he'll go in as an officer.  Most definitely a team player.  Someone mentioned that he didn't play QB because of his injuries.  That's definitely not true because he moved to WR.  Always felt like he had the potential to be a scrappy QB.  Regardless, we need more guys with his attitude and perspective.

I wonder if he's formally joined the Army? I'm reminded of one of my high school friends who couldn't get into the Army due to a health concern, but served in the Navy instead.

One of my favorite non-contributors that has ever played at Nebraska. I've always admired the way he handled the difficult situation he was dealt as he entered college, and how seriously he took his role as the team's holder.

Thanks, Zack! Good luck.

Zack seems like a class kid.  Good luck to him.

And also helps the FB team in that we aren't "wasting" a scholarship on a 5th year Sr who only sees the field as a holder.

He's actually enlisting.

He has. He leaves in May.

Just because he moved to WR really doesn't mean anything. He was never going to see the field in any real action due to injury

This is just awesome all the way around.  Handled by the program with class and he handled the entire unfortunate situation with class.  He couldn't be "the Man" so he became the best teammate he could!
