  1. collier was a "nice guy" but we should have let him go a bit earlier...obviously his intentions werent invested in the future of husker basketball as he bolted the first oppurtunity he got with the butler ad job. i would have loved huggins to have come to lincoln...would have been a perfect fit. the guy's getting 5-star recruits to come and play for him in manahatten, ks (nice town, where i lived in during my elementary school years lol), but seriously, manahatten and big time college basketball recruits? if huskers would have hired him, with the national prominance of the husker football program and athletic department resources that huggins would have had, he would have made the huskers a contender at least in the big 12 for sure. with that said, i hope doc gets the job done...i like his enthusiasm and spirit so far, but that only goes so far if the wins dont come around..and the big 12 is gettin to be a tough basketball conference with the addition of some pretty good coaches.
  2. I guess you give them a free ride for the next three or four years then. I think Callahan is a good head coach. I think Cosgrove is weak. Don't you think Solich's defensive players looked pretty good in his last year under Bo's direction? OH GOD not another Solich based topic! lol Solich SHOULDNT be the topic....if he was the topic...the last year under solich we went 10-3...and pelini was the last link to blackshirt consistency which has been lacking for 3 years now
  3. the kansas state wildcats under first year head coach ron prince beat osu...but big red (under 3rd year coach bc) not only loses, but gets waxed? doesnt add up. and how is it still solich's lack of recruiting thats contributed to this defensive inconsistency? this is bc and cosgroves 3rd year... and the last year that solich was coaching if i remember right...they had a decent defensive under pelini that at least didnt get lit up by teams like osu and kansas (albeit they did get lit up by the power houses)
  4. true, the front seven may have been overrated, and the secondary is inexperienced... so time only will tell maybe with cosgrove if he gets the right recruits in, but i hope that its not too late (husker's sink even further on defensive the next couple of years) by the time we realize maybe cosgrove is the real problem. i guess my main concern is not cause we lost, but the way we lose games sometimes by such insane numbers in terms of giving up points and yards...like u said, they are good, but not gods, but i expect a well coached big red husker defense, even an average one...not to give up 495 yards against osu, and roughly the same amount against kansas. i hope your right though, if cosgrove gets the right recruits in and they start dominating on a consistent basis i'd be the first to admit that i was wrong in thinking coz maybe the problem.
  5. hmmm....i'm pretty sure when the guys you just listed were coming out of high school...they were being recruited by some big time college football programs....at least grixby and moore were 4 star recruits if i remember right, but thats not to say recruiting rankings mean anything. furthermore, i thought we did a decent job competing with texas and even usc from a physical stand point on the defensive side. but against osu it was just ridiculous...just another game like kansas this year, kansas and mizzou in 05, and texas tech in 04. every year of the cosgrove era has a defensive debacle and a blowout loss. i really think its the coaching and maybe even the in game adjustments and schemes more so than our percieved lack of athleticism and speed. pretty sure if we had a guy like pelini coaching the defense, the last 3 years would have been a little better. granted even under pelini we did get beat down by the big time programs like texas, but we sure as hell did lose and get beat defensively to schools like osu, kansas, and texas tech.
  6. play calling on offense was ok for the osu game....i've realized that after watchin bc call plays over the last 3 years, that it can just drive you insane trying to figure out why the hell he would call plays as he does sometimes (i.e. throwing the ball a billion times with joe dailey 3 years ago and then like none against usc when it mattered the most w/ zach taylor). anyway, my question would be the defensive schemes that cosgrove has been implementing...we may not have as much team speed or talent as we did during the championship years, but i still think our defense has top 25 talent on it. so...how the hell do we give up crazy numbers against teams like state and kansas (i know they have good offenses, but giving up 490 yards?...thats absolutely tarnishing the legacy of the blackshirts and what they have stood for under mcbride and even under the year under pelini). i seriously think we have talented defensive players...but an un-talented defensive coaching staff (cosgrove) that dont seem to be able to make "in game" adjustments. the year under pelini, the defense practically carried the huskers to a 10-3 records. the year after, virtually the same defense was back with the bullock brothers & co. , but they just got lit up with cosgroves new schemes. at the time, coaches were saying it was a new system and all that bs...but 2 years later, its the same inconsistency from week to week. play good one week, then get blown up against teams like osu and kansas. folks, i'll always stick with the huskers through no matter what, but seriously, with this much inconsistency its hard to make a read on the programs future. our front 7 i think is one of the best in the country....and they just got blown up. i know some people say its the players on the field that make the plays and not the coaches...but at some point, you gotta look at the coaches and their ability to teach, motivate, and creativity in designing offensive/defensive game plans that can be adjusted to game changing situations! uggg, anyway, thats my 2 cents....just frustrating, but i'm still hoping like i do every year that something good will come out of it.
