Marrow to Kentucky

Here's how I would rate our positions in 2012.

1. RBs (with Rex healthy)

2. WRs

3. CBs

4. QB

5. TEs

6. DEs

7. Ss

8. OGs

9. C

10. OTs

11. LBs

12. DTs

Regardless of the play, they are one of our weaker units. OGs likely above Safeties. But still bottom half.
Great now do a ranking of how depth looks at every position going into 2013.

I would say our Center Position has been stout all year long. Justin Jackson has been holding that line down harder than anyone else, and worked harder than almost anyone on defense. Our Safety position is obviously in worse shape than Justin Jackson at Center. As of right now, I would agree with your chart, but before Justin Jackson injury, I don't agree. If our line was that bad, we shouldn't have a top 25 ranked offense. Period.

So, what your saying, is that walk-ons aren't "talented" enough to have starting positions over highly recruited kids? The only thing I see in this, is good coaching. We are also 6th best in Rushing defense, facing 5 top 25 rushing defense schools, which is also most in the nation.
 I'm pointing out the absurdity of complaining that walkons are playing.

I don't know what is the problem with our highly thought of recruits that come in here on the OL. It baffles me. BUT, you can't say our coaching is total crap when we have players who ARE getting better, we have a good running game and we have a walk on who has become an All American.
When was I ever complaining about our offensive line or starting walk-ons? I have not complained about about our coaching being crap, not once! Your here twisting everything I have said, COMPLETELY around. If you read things right, I said it would be absurd to fire Cotton for Marrow. Gave my reasons why Cotton shouldn't be thrown under the bus.

Obviously Bo isn't worried about losing Marrow since he recommended him to stoops at Kentucky! Now, I don't know if that means Bo went out of his way to contact stoops or if stoops inquired about Marrow and made the first contact? Which way it happened does tell alot, but either way, I can't understand why many consider him to important to let go? Come on, let's keep it real... good recruiter or not, him being from Ohio isnt going to matter since Bo and Beck both are from there, and many coaches are good at connecting with recruits and making a great first impression with a recruit and his family! He was a grad assisstant anyway... how much impact did he really have in recruiting? Although I think he was a positive in recruiting, I think his importance is overstated a bit.

That quote wasn't at you.

well if true this really sucks and dont want to say the sky is falling but i just hope we dont see a domino effect happen.. both with recruits and potential recruits...... amazing to think this might set us back in recruiting.... i wonder if true how Bo let this get away..... was it impossible to stop??? i dont know
It was able to be stopped, Bo just would have had to give a qualified guy a full time job instead of still dicking him around as a GA...
Oh good god!

Interesting how many accuse Bo of not knowing what he's doing, hiring inexperienced coaches and only hiring his buddies.

Now we're about to lose one and the meltdown begins...
I'm not one of those people and I could be way off base on if Marrow is good, but I know what I see in Cotton and I know we could have better, not being a Cotton hater, just being honest.
Your not even close to the base. your that far off.

And *YOU'RE* completely wrong in that assumption of me... I didn't know I have to think how you think or else I get treated like crap here...

Which coach should he have canned in order to give a GA a position?

$100 he says Cotton. (or would have before I said something)

Let's play the Coaching Shuffle. Who do you can to make room for Marrow?

The rules of the game - you get one Head Coach, nine Assistant Coaches and two GAs. You may have NO MORE THAN eleven total coaches. You may have any number of weight/Strength & Conditioning coaches who may help your team with flexibility, warm-up and physical conditioning activities prior to any game and prior to or during any practice or other organized activities without being included in the limitations on number of coaches, but they may not "coach."

Here's Nebraska's current staff. For every coach you add (let's say that's Marrow, even though he's gone), you have to take a guy away.

Head Coach: Bo Pelini

Offensive Coordinator: Tim Beck

Offensive Line: Barney Cotton

-Asst. Offensive Line: John Garrison

Running Backs: Ron Brown

Receivers: Rich Fisher

Defensive Coordinator: John Papuchis

Defensive Line: Rick Kaczenski

Linebackers: Ross Els

Secondary: Terry Joseph

Graduate Assistant Coach: Joey Ganz

Graduate Assistant Coach: Jake Mandelko

Graduate Assistant Coach: T.J. Hollowell

So who do you get rid of, and why? Remember, several of these guys wear multiple hats, so if you can him, you're going to have to find someone to replace him who can wear all of those hats, OR you're going to have to spread it around to the other coaches - and it has to work, and work better than what we have now.

For example, Ross Els not only coaches the Linebackers, he's responsible for Special Teams and he's our Recruiting Coordinator. Tim Beck is not only our Offensive Coordinator, he's our QB Coach as well. Barney Cotton isn't just our O Line coach, he wears the "Associate Head Coach" hat as well.

And for S&G, here's a list of other prominent characters running around the front office. These guys are important, but not allowed to coach:

Head Strength Coach: James Dobson

Assistant Strength Coach: Chad Wade

Assistant Strength Coach: Tyler Clarke

Assistant Strength Coach: Willie Jones

Assistant Strength Coach: Brandon Rigoni

Head Football Trainer: Mark Mayer

Assistant Athletic Trainer for Football: Jeremy Busch

Head Athletic Trainer: Jerry Weber

Equipment Manager: Jay Terry

Assistant Equipment Manager: Tyler Recker

Sports Nutritionist: Scott Trausch

Football Intern: Curt Baldus

Football Intern: Travis Borchardt

Football Intern: Drew Soukup

Football Intern: Brenden Stai

Football Intern: LaTravis Washington

You could pull one of these guys up to your list of coaches up there, or hire from outside. Have fun!

....too much fun here. are we just trying to keep marrow or working off our "ideal" staff? here's a mix....($6,000,000 budget)

Head Coach: Joe Moglia – Somewhere out there ($750,000)

Offensive Coordinator: Tim Beck – NU (keeping for continuity - and he's relatively cheap in comparison to the others here, so I need the $$ to stay under budget) – ($500,000)

Offensive Line: Pat Hill – Falcons/Fresno ($650,000)

Running Backs: Ron Brown - NU ($400,000)

Receivers-Co Offensive Coordinator: Scott Frost – Oregon – will be groomed to take over the OC position when Beck leaves. ($650,000)

Defensive Coordinator: Tosh Lupoi - Washington ($750,000)

Defensive Line: Brick Haley - LSU ($550,000)

Linebackers: Bob Gregory – Boise ($450,000)

Secondary: Ron Cooper – Tampa/LSU ($550,000)

ST & Recruiting Coordinator: DJ Durkin – Florida ($750,000)

Graduate Assistant Coach: Anyone (someone dedicated to the TEs though)

Graduate Assistant Coach: Anyone (someone to assist the OL)

Graduate Assistant Coach: Anyone (someone to assist the DL)

...and for S&C I'd pluck someone from the SEC. Yoxal from Auburn is likely looking. I might also go after Stanford's S&C. Whatever they are doing with the big guys, is working.
